Hey everybody!  This was my submission for the Tipper and Friends DJ competition to play at Tipper's festival in April of 2016.  This mix features four unreleased tunes as well as two from my last release with Merkaba.  The <3 and repost button help out with the contest.  Enjoy!

Big thanks to Dave and congrats on having the festival.  Tipper has set the benchmark and greatly inspired myself and so many others with his meticulously crafted music.  This set is an ohmage to him.

Chic had a sound of all their own, the crack rhythm section of Nile Rodgers (guitar), Bernard Edwards (bass) and drummer Tony Thompson providing the highly infectious grooves that characterised their records. They would be massively influential as a consequence, their anthemic tracks still loved all these years later, with a new younger generation embracing their good time vibe in the same way their parents might have.
 
The mix consists of 12 edits / reworks of 9 Rogers & Edwards produced tracks, all of which happened to be originally recorded during 1977-79, the years which saw Disco peak and decline, with Chic at the helm during those halcyon days, their own recordings providing 4 US top 10 singles, including a pair of #1s, whilst Sister Sledge, whose success they mentored, weighed in via the hit-laden ‘We Are Family’ LP. They even found time for a French excursion via Sheila & B Devotion’s ‘Spacer’.

GOURANGA MIXTAPE: Greg Wilson - The Chic Organization - 1977-79 Selection Reworked

I’ve played a lot of places so far this year - Sydney, Bangkok, Beijing, Singapore, London, NYC, DC, Detroit, LA, London, Paris, Madrid, Cornwall and of course Dundee amongst others. But next week I am headed to Love International Festival in Croatia and I am really excited to be playing there for the first time. 

Even better I am playing an all day session with two of my favs Ray Mang and Joutro Mundo down The Olive Grove. I’ve played with these two belters in clubs, warehouses, beach parties and boat parties over the last few years. I love their music and love playing and hanging with them. I can’t wait. The vibes will be strong. 

It will also be the last gig for a month or so as I am taking a break to do some other stuff. And it seems right to finish at Love International as it is such a crazy gathering of DJs and party people from around the world in the beautiful setting of Tisno. 

So anyway I decided to throw a mix together as I've not done one for a while that is packed full of the tunes that have done it for me so far this year (and some old ones that still do) and which weaves together special dance floor moments from all those places I have visited so far this year into something I hope will please your ears and maybe make you want to dance.

Inspiring dance moves and encouraging energy transfer, Wonx creates a unique spiritual bass experience for his fans during every performance. Imagine wavy undulations guiding you onto the dance floor. The bass rolls in and raises your vibrations to a peak. Then you’re rocked by a soothing melody that brings you back to the present. People glide away from a Wonx set feeling energized, relaxed, and ready to seize the day or night. 

Austin Hilton, known as Wonx, brings chill vibes to every party. People are naturally attracted to his calm demeanor and wonky bass. With mashup style DJing, he brings together sounds like drippy dark bass, guitar, and sensual vocals to find the sweet spot where they all overlap. 

With roots in classical piano and trumpet, Austin has been inspired by music his entire life. He woke up to the bass music scene while living in NOLA. The first genres that attracted him were dubstep and trap, so it was no surprise when he relocated to Detroit and started performing as HighEfficiency. Some of his early influences include Bassnectar, Rusko, Zeds Dead, and Krewella. 

In 2016, his work brought him to the bay area where he first experienced west coast bass at an Organic Frequencies party. He was inspired by artists like Yheti, Desert Dwellers, and Clozee who taught him that bass music can be beautiful. All of these changes guided his transformation into Wonx, the wonky, weird, and wonderful artist we know and love.

With passion for the craft and energy to get the crowd jumping, Wonx is just getting started on his journey. Recently, he’s been finding his flow performing renegade sets at events like Dirtybird Campout and Lightning in a Bottle. He prescribes just the right music for the dancing souls of our generation. His dream is to inspire people to move differently, whether it be in the yoga studio, at an ecstatic dance event, or just vibing at home. Completely self-taught, Wonx is deep in the wave of inspiration.
