Born in the dark streets of Cairo, grown to the unforgettable forests of Santa Esmeralda, spending its teen years in Bombay and Tangier markets, mature into the deep spacey Jungle of Ghana we proudly present you a new label from the land of the pyramids: SHANGO RECORDS invites you to an unheard world music psychedelic trip: like through a colorful kaleidoscope we will melt down Indian and Pakistani Vibes, Arab-Tek and Oriental groovy vibes, Afro-Beat rhythms n' pieces, Cumbia Tropicana flavors and cosmic Ghetto-Latin vibes into forbidden sounds of frenzied electronic dancefloor rituals. Outside traditional paths these driving grooves and polyphonic structures take the adventure seeking dancer to Dionysian highs and places never been before.

The Huli are believed to have laid down roots in Papua New Guinea as far back as 45,000 years ago. Most of the Huli people are from the town of Tari, and many still live according to the traditional ways. “The Huli men are famous for their unique custom of creating and wearing impressive wigs decorated with feathers. They also wear bright facial paint in red, yellow and white — colors originally chosen to strike fear into their enemy in times of conflict. Nowadays, they usually wear them to sing and dance.”. The so-called Wigmen make their wigs out of their own hair and weave them with feathers from the island’s 700 bird species. Each feather carries its own symbolic meaning (such as strength and courage). “The forest in which we live is essential to us. It provides for all our needs, it is sacred, and I would do anything in my power to protect it,” writes Mundiya Kepanga, a 53-year-old Huli Wigman, “I hope that by helping people to better understand my culture, they will also respect our environment.”                                                                                                                    This is the new Shango Records compilation entitled “A Wigmen Town Called Tari”. Our new Chrom EP is called "Kuro Kumo": a brillant 4-track EP from HEILAN, an electronic music producer and DJ from the UK, based nowadays in Lisbon, Portugal. After more than a decade as a theatre maker and artist, HEILAN moved into DJing and producing as a new creative outlet, alongside composing music for film. HEILAN's music reflects his work in theatre, live art and dance, with a focus on structure, narrative and rhythmic journeys. His productions take influences from a range of music genres, often experimenting with live instrument samples, vocals and found sounds, against the backdrop of techno. All 4 tracks from this EP are a perfect exemple of this. It really doesn't happen a lot that we sign 4 originals from the same artist, but according to us these originals have it all: thé perfect blend of indie dance, progressive house and melodic techno with an organic/afro touch. The originals are 100%% Chrom style and speak for themselves, so no need at all to add remixes this time.

HEILAN released already on labels such as VIAGE, Camel Riders, Magic Moment and Sound Optix. Key DJ gigs in the UK have included Egg Club and Ministry Of Sound, as well as Tribal Soul and Bermondsey Social Club. Whilst recently living in Lebanon he was a resident DJ at Radio Beirut, and held a weekly residency at Funky Fish Beach Club in Summer 2020. HEILAN is now based in Lisbon, Portugal, with recent gigs including Nada Temple and Level Eight Rooftop.

Simina Grigoriu bridges the heavy and the melodic realms of techno for her inaugural EP on Kuukou Records. An experienced globetrotter, Simina is known for taking great inspiration from her travels, so it comes as no surprise that the name she’s chosen for her own label, Kuukou stands for “airport” in Japanese. 
 
Techno Monkey kicks off proceedings with a hard hitting bassline, setting a compelling audio narrative for the entire track. The melody unfolds by the way of undulating synths as well as grave bells and clangs, peppered with eerie vocals. Ron Flatter reworks the heavy hitter into a more pensive cut, gradually developing a punchy bassline. Accentuating the percussion through timbered claps and whirlwinding synths, Flatter offers a more techhouse flavoured issue of the original. 
 
Ninja Princess provides an exotic sound exploration, setting off all the elements from the get go. We’re emerged into a vibrant melody with a progressive bassline, taking us from luscious vocals to winding synths within a matter of seconds. First ones up for the rework are Austrian electrotech masterminds, Klangkarussell. With a penchant for relentless soundscapes, their reinterpretation of Simina’s track is infused with tribal drums and spacious synth loops. Next up on board is Citizen Kain, taking us on a trip to the dark side of the Ninja Princess. Gloomy kicks set a dark trippy atmosphere, while Citizen Kain strips down most of the track’s elements, resulting in a minimal yet mesmerizing approach. Alfred Heinrichs closes up the release with another minimalist and murky reconstruction. Keeping the subtle melodiousness at bay through harmonic chord arrangements, Heinrichs brings out the late night club appeal of the initial track, making for a perfect dancefloor banger.
