Here is the story behind the track ( in the words of the Beautiful Dark )

This began when I suggested in a song comment that we do a collaboration and I threw out folklore as the flavour.

Two days later Grian Óg sent me a wonderful 16 instrument orchestral composition. I added some acoustic guitar and wrote the lyrics based on one of Ireland's most famous legends in our mythology, The Children of Lir. I then sent back the whole idea to Grian Óg and he generated a mix that makes the idea what it should be. Amazing. Well done man!

Long story short... King Lir & Mama had 4 Kids / Mama passed :( / Succubus arrives (a person that sucks the life out of another person in a relationship) / She turned the poor kids into Swans and banished them for 900 years because she was jealous of the kings love for his children (what a bitch) / they came back shrivelled after 900 years, died and were all happy together again in the afterlife with their Dad and Mama!...

Eh em... Since Christianity likely highly adapted and redacted this myth....Aoife is enjoying Hell haha (when she's actually just with them all now having a laugh about it all) Her afterlife punishment was to laugh about it for 900 years...

For my sixth birthday for weeks and weeks I begged my dad for a dog
But my dad didn’t think I was responsible enough and he was also kind of cheap
But I kept asking him constantly and finally he broke down
He gave me a little cabbage plant growing in a Styrofoam cup

He said if you take good care of this cabbage plant
Next year I’ll consider buying you a dog

I named him Charlie and I planted him in the flowerbed in the front yard
And every morning I’d go outside, and I’d feed him water and fertilizer
I’d update him on what was going on inside the house
And as far as cabbages go Charlie was a patient listener

Every night before I went to bed
I’d stick my head out the window and say goodnight to Charlie.

Our friendship was more than one of those passing fads
And every day Charlie grew until his head was bigger than my dad’s

And I guess my dad must have noticed too because one crisp autumn afternoon
Me and Charlie were sitting in the flowerbed listening to a baseball game
My dad came outside, and he said to me, it’s time for you to become a man

He reached down and he ripped my best friend Charlie out of the ground
For a couple of seconds, I could see his little roots gasping for soil 
Then we took him in the house and we cleaned and we gutted him

 And I swore that would be the last time I’d ever have a personal relationship
 with a vegetable of the cruciferous type
And as we sat around the table, eating our cabbage soup
It occurred to me I was so glad my dad hadn’t bought be a dog

I dedicate this song to Charlie because he made such a big impression on me
Those months we spent together made me so happy.
I go down the produce aisle at the grocery store.  I see those cabbages and it makes sad
I’m glad for the time we spent together.  Sorry it had to end up so bad.

Some of the best accounts on here have really long bios (I actually appreciate this), and I don't want to be confused with a bot account. If you are a human, I am probably listening to your music (I've definitely heard some AI, you know the sound) but Soundcloud is currently the only place I can hear real unmixed underground shoegaze, wild genre experiments, the weirdest rap flows, and piano ballads all in one sitting. My wife Martine only likes mastered music (she sings on 'God Given' and 'Sun' on this page) but I will sit here and listen through everything because some labels can't/won't and I actually enjoy the process of finding gold in the form of a passionate musician who can only afford to upkeep a Soundcloud account. If no one has heard you yet, keep creating! We still don't know you, but we are listening!
