your long black neck, soft dawn, 
trickled down, to the sun-speckled lawn
of the forest-floor, drawn
'round the red-eye, the star-spitting, soul-stabbing stare
that swoops like a bird-of-prey's scream through the air;
and you lay prostrate as i held you there,
with a word, and a knife, and a wing, and a prayer. 

and now the northern lights
flash their iridescent patterns across the sky
while the satellites 
blink their little lanterns behind my eyes! 

we've bed down for the night... 

we stood still! in the shallows, 
like you took out a camera and snapped the picture. 
pushing out! of the frame, 
like ripples towards the shore of a stone-skipped surface.
shutter clicks! fireworks 
exploding from a sky of saturated colors.
fractured light! splashes down,
in this animal soup we swim underwater, underwater, underwater...

across the lake! the nape of your neck,
with the translucent lines pressing into your back, i
thought i felt! the beating of your heart,
pulsing out from your body underneath your feathers...
i span the gap! form the creases in the map
while the territory unfolded around us.
thick and coarse! and viscous chords
from the center of your body echo all around us, all around us, all around us, all around...
