For years, Leigh Wood and Josh Warrington have talked up an eventual clash. On Saturday, they'll finally share the ring with Wood's WBA featherweight championship on the line in Sheffield, England (2 p.m. ET, DAZN).

Warrington (31-2-1, 8 KO) is just 1-2-1 since 2021 and one could certainly say that such a run doesn't deserve a shot at a world title. Warrington's lone win in that stretch was over Kiko Martínez in a fight that won Warrington the IBF featherweight title for the second time in his career.

Warrington's second title reign was short-lived, with him dropping a majority decision to Luis Alberto Lopez this past December. Despite the loss, Warrington and Wood wanted to make the fight and Matchroom Boxing's Eddie Hearn has been keen on the fight for some time as well, and that's good enough to get a fight done in boxing.

Wood (27-3, 16 KO) won the WBA's secondary title with a 12th-round stoppage of Xu Can in 2021. He defended that belt with one of 2022's most dramatic fights, knocking Michael Conlan out of the ring for a second consecutive 12th-round stoppage, this time in a fight Conlan had almost entirely controlled until the stoppage.

After WBA world champion Leo Santa Cruz couldn't come to terms for a mandatory defense against Wood despite multiple orders, Santa Cruz vacated his belt, leaving Wood as the sanctioning body's top champion.

In February, Wood dropped the belt when he was stopped by Mauricio Lara in a fight where Wood performed well until he was caught by a solid hook. Wood was given a rematch in May and again performed well, this time taking a clear decision win to regain his title.

Wood is the better boxer and has the better power in his shots. He also seems to be coming into his own as a fighter, with two good showings against the always-dangerous Lara. Warrington is tough and has skills but has a lot of miles on his body and has looked like a faded fighter over the past five years.

In addition, Jasmine Artiga (10-0-1, 5 KOs) of Tampa, Florida goes up against Haley Pasion (2-4) of Waipahu, Hawaii in an eight-rounder at super flyweight.

25-year-old Hitchins (16-0, 7 KOs) of Brooklyn, New York looks to improve his unbeaten record, retain his strap and rise up in rankings. 34-year-old Zepeda (36-3 27 KOs) of Long Beach, California eyes his second win in a row. In addition, the vacant WBC “Silver” and WBO NABO belts are on the line.

Hitchins is an upcoming professional boxing prospect with a record of 16-0 and seven wins coming from KO. Now 25, he recently joined Matchroom Boxing, following a short tenure with Mayweather Promotions as a new professional.

Terri Harper will clash with former world pound-for-pound No.1 Cecilia Braekhus for the WBA and WBO wuper-welterweight world titles on the undercard of Leigh Wood's WBA featherweight world title defence against Josh Warrington at the Utilita Arena Sheffield on Saturday October 7, live worldwide on DAZN .

The pair were originally slated to square off for Harper's WBA crown on the historic Katie Taylor vs. Chantelle Cameron show at the 3Arena in Dublin earlier this year, but Braekhus was forced to withdraw from their fight on the morning of the event due to an illness. 

Former WBC and IBO super-featherweight world champion Harper (13-1-1 6 KOs) won the WBA 154lbs world title by widely outpointing Scotland’s Hannah Rankin at the Motorpoint Arena Nottingham in September last year – her first fight up at super-welterweight.
 
Norway’s Braekhus (37-2, 9 KOs), a former undisputed ruler at 147lbs, is attempting to become a two-division world champion. ‘First Lady’, a modern pioneer of women’s boxing, held the WBC and WBA World Titles at welterweight from 2009 to 2020, also picking up the WBO title in 2010 and the IBF title in 2014.
 
Braekhus lost the titles by majority decision to Jessica McCaskill in August 2020 in Downtown Tulsa, USA and lost again to ‘CasKILLA’ in a rematch at the American Airlines Center in Dallas in March 2021. McCaskill is the only fighter to have beaten Braekhus as a professional.

"The fight went down really well with the fans the first time and it would’ve been a shame for it to have never happened," said Harper.

"I'm excited and grateful to everyone for making it happen again and it'll be even more special this time with the opportunity of unifying the division. 

"When the fight fell through last time I sulked for the weekend but thanks to Matchroom and Eddie I was back in the gym the following Monday ready for another fight week. Looking back this experience has made me a stronger fighter with even more experience now gained.

A 2014 World Championships silver medalist, Ryan turned pro in 2021. Since losing her fourth pro fight against Erica Farias, Ryan has gone on a three-fight win streak, beating Marie Houle for the WBO welterweight title in April.

After watching the tape on both guys, this fight is one of the best examples of great matchmaking in non-title fight boxing today. We don’t get to see a lot of great matchups like this, especially when there aren’t any titles or bags of cash involved.

On the technical side of this fight, both of these guys are a blast to watch. Zepeda has been a part of some of the most exciting fights in super lightweight/light welterweight history, and Hitchins is a young rising prospect with a pretty style.

Three or four years ago, claiming Zepeda was the division’s best pure boxer wouldn’t have been far-fetched. There might be a slight difference in overall ability now as he ages into his mid-thirties, but he will still be a sharp southpaw with plenty of power and great counterpunching ability and accuracy.

Zepeda is going to be the longer and bigger fighter, and he fights behind a very good jab out. He possesses a potent right hand, notorious for troubling southpaws with a direct hit down the center.
