LONG AGO, IN A LIBRARY FAR, FAR AWAY…

The Chief Librarian shook his worried head.

"There's no doubt about it…this is the work of WORD WUMPS!" he said.
Everybody looked at the book he held in his hand.
It looked like any other book, except… there were no words in it.
Every page was blank. Those nasties, the Word Wumps had struck again,
Gobbling up every word and leaving nothing behind but HORRIBLY…EMPTY…WHITE… pages.

"What can we do?" everyone cried. The Chief Librarian shook his head again.
"Nobody knows how to stop them. Why, I heard tell of one library in Las Vegas where EVERY SINGLE WORD of EVERY SINGLE BOOK was gobbled up by those detestable Word Wumps!”

Everyone went home…afraid that when they came back tomorrow…
ALL THE WORDS of ALL THE BOOKS in the library would be gone!
But after they left, something weird, something wonder happened!
The characters all leaped out of their books and had a conference.
Alice in Wonderland banged her fist on the table and said:
"We can’t let this happen! When the words are gone then SO ARE WE! Prepare for battle!

I have a plan to fix those Word Wumps once and for all…”

CHORUS: Alice in Wonderland had a plan---
Calling all characters to make a stand
Against the Word Wumps, greedy crooks,
In a desperate midnight battle of the books

She knew they crept in through the sewer drain.
"So that is where we start." She explained,
"Charlotte, Anansi weave a big net,
And make it your strongest and stickiest yet!”

"Mary Poppins, I'll bet you can blow some away,
Like you did all those nannies on one windy day.
Mr. BFG, please stand over there.
Just the sight of a giant should give them a scare---"

CHORUS

"Huck Finn, over here with your old fishing pole.
Catch all those Wumps, throw them back in the hole
Dorothy, you've handled witches before,
Take this bucket of water and stand by the door."

Hansel and Gretel, you're too young to fight,
You better find some place to hide, out of sight."
And soon all the Word Wumps they crawled, oozed and ran,
Up from the drain, and the battle began--------

CHORUS: But Alice in Wonderland had a plan---
Calling all characters to make a stand
Against the Word Wumps, greedy crooks,
In a desperate midnight battle of the books

The spider web held them at bay for a while,
But then they broke through and oozed down the aisle.
Mary Poppins blew some up the chimney and gone
But the Word Wumps kept coming, by the million and one.

They slithered and slunk past the BFG…
Too quick and too small for a giant to see.
Huck Finn caught a lot, but they came without end,
Just the end that they saw, when there's no books to lend
…Ohhhh!!

CHORUS

Alice had one final line of defense:
She lined up her playing cards to act as a fence
But Wumps just loved numbers. The cards all fell blank,
And still Wumps kept coming, rank after rank!

It was then that young Gretel had her splendid idea:
“Telephone books! Hansel! Help over here!”
They shook out the phone numbers into a pile,
And then made a path of them right down the aisle
Right out of the Library, right round the Pool.
A delectible treat to make Word Wumps drool------

For they sprinkled a circle of numbers around,
And ran off to watch, where they could not be found.

CHORUS

Sure enough, greedy Word Wumps soon followed the trail,
Crowding each other, bumping head into tail
They circled around in a such furious storm,
That they ate up each other, until there was ONE

Yes, they gobbled around in a circle so fast,
That they ate up each other right down to the last
And then there was ONE, much too full to run,
So the books were all saved, and the battle was won

And the last of the Word Wumps lives happy now too,
With a pile of old telephone books…at the zoo----.
