Joran van Pol is back on Minus with Edge, a fantastic four track EP that is his first on the label since 2013. In the years since, the Amsterdam based artist has set up his own FADE label and has continued to evolve his cinematic techno sound. 

Previously, van Pol has also released on labels like Rejected, SCI+TEC and Ideal Audio, and has the support of all the big techno players who often reach for his tunes in their sets. As a DJ he is just as in demand, with headline slots everywhere from Space Ibiza to Time Warp all behind him. Having recently set up a new studio, he is still coming on strong with fresh inspiration and ever more essential grooves. 

‘Illos’ opens things with seven spooky minutes of icy techno. Rolling rubbery drums pump away below, and the details up top make for an evocative soundscape with distant industrial sounds, groaning bass and razor sharp hi hats all filling your mind with imagery. Next comes title track ‘Edge’, another brilliant sonic landscape with tense chords repeating over ticking percussion. It’s a track that builds tension throughout, and keeps you looking over your shoulder into the eerie blackness. 





The perfectly high pressure ‘Return’ is one that locks you in and never lets up, with warped synths snaking above traintrack like drums and hits. A dark, rumbling bassline and the sounds of pistons releasing air all add to the intensity of this brain-melting bit of futuristic techno. 

Last but not least, ‘Frostbite’ is then the most spacious and spooky offering of the lot. It has freaky alien sound designs scattered around the track with supple kicks driving the whole thing forwards. It’s an absorbing cut that hurries along and takes you for a thrilling ride. 

These are four more inventive techno tracks from one of the contemporary scene’s brightest stars.

Secret Cinema’s Gem Records return with two ice cold cuts by Serbian born, Berlin based, Patent Skillz label boss: DJ Lion. 

DJ Lion is a pioneer of techno in his native Serbia. He rose to fame with Richie Hawtin supporting his every release. He is an audio engineer and teacher and that reflects in his music. His Gem Records EP has a futuristic approach to dynamics with synths sticking out above mix, giving those raw sounds the energy in the mix instead of the usual kick drum. The two track EP has been a highlight in Secret Cinema’s sets for the past months with crowds going crazy for it. 

With Gem Records set to release EPs by Ramon Tapia, SQL, Transcode and Christopher Kah over the next few months, these are heady times for a label that continues to be rewarded for its consistent and innovative approach to contemporary electronic music.

Volume 3 of the VA Kuukou compilation aptly entitled Passengers brings together a sexted of label alums as well as fresh faces each bringing their unique production flair into one original track. The tracks make for an exhaustive arsenal of club weapons for different times of the set, like floor up-warmers Apriori, with its syncopated melody or Heinerich and Heine’s playfully groovy L’amnésie. There’s also a share of powerful roof raisers, from JOANiSH’s punchy The Great Hike to Italian producer and electronic music platform head Barbur’s straightforward techno number Its Berlin or Jägerhertz’ relentlessly elevating No Way Out. Rounding off the release in a rhythm-heavy, glitched-out fashion there’s Tomiac’s tonic Transposition.

"In 2013, when I was in the Hardtechno / Schranz music scene, Monegros promoters asked me to play together with Instigator a special 170bpm 1 hour hardtechno set for the festival (yes, I was really hard before... ). Monegros was, for me, something like a dream. Playing in the middle of a Spanish desert was insane. So, I asked my girlfriend to come with me as she usually does to celebrate it and enjoy the party as much as possible. Usually, for us, celebrate a party is about drinking and dancing (and playing the dj set of course).... But, this night I (and she) did not drink at all... why??? Because 2 days before the festival we learned that my girlfriend was pregnant... So, even if it was one of the best party in my life, as a serious future daddy, and to show as much solidarity as possible, I only drank water on Monegros... It was a magical moment anyway and we celebrated it for the first time as three and not only 2 (Amalia, my daughter, was probably dancing during the whole night too... )” - Greg Notill

“So I had my very first gig just 1 month after I got in touch with music production and DJ’ing. I was living in Malta at this time and and didn’t really know how all this works. The club I was supposed to play was a reggae club originally, not prepared for this as the gig was part of a charity event and didn’t have any equipment for me to use, so I had to head back home and get my Ableton Push (my only hardware at this point) and come back and play my 1 hour set with it. Luckily I had done this a few times as I had no other controller at this time and it wasn’t too difficult for me. Everything worked out fine in the end and people were dancing and having fun. I will never forget the adrenaline flushing through my body when this guy came up to me and asked me, what I am going to use for my gig and pointed to my empty hands though.” - Vince Weyn

Davor Pavelic alias Worda true music lover, based in Sarajevo and on the scene for 13 years and due that period he played with some well known names such are Cristian Varela, Marco Bailey, Sam Paganini, Du'Art, Spartaque, Nakadia, Fernanda Martins, Oxia, Deborah De Luca, Axel Karakasis, Umek, Horacio Cruz and many many more domestic, regional and world wide artists.
In his career so far Worda has over 100 digital releases and it comes multiple times on top charts on music stores (beatport, junodownload, trackitdown, nowtrax), and his productions are signed for many good labels such are: 1605 Music Therapy, Yin Yang Records, Italo Business, Teggno, Pragmatik, DSR Digital, Frequenza Records,ECI Korea and many more world wide record labels.
So Worda's productions is supported from big guys Sven Vath, Cristian Varela, Umek, Joseph Capriati, Luigi Madonna, Spartaque and many many more.
From 2015 he host and edit “mTechno Radio Showcase”, label radio show on major Bosnian radiostation "Radio Otvorena Mreža".
On 7th of June 2016 he starts a label mTechno Records as co-owner based in Sarajevo and even earlier he runs Chain Reaction Events event planer organisation and make a 'cause' for making connections even further.
In 2017 he released his first videospot ever as audio and video producer and editor with remix on TKNO's track 'Dragon Eyes' and later that year two of them shared the decks on "Sea Dance Festival" in Budva and on 07/07/2017 he promote his first debutant release on Tauten under the name “Thibodeau” on prestige “Exit Festival” in Novi Sad.
2018 was studio year for Worda and he released on Yin Yang and his mTechno, and prepared bunch of releases and his first album with 12 tracks, will be released in February 2019!
In 2018 he record first appereances in: Graz, Mannheim, Subotica, Banja Luka, Prijedor and on for him very special Festival 84 and second appereance on “Exit Festival” in Novi Sad.
After a while Worda manage to visit and play his upcoming releases for ravers in Belgrade, Bihać, Mostar, Sarajevo, Tuzla and update his inspiration for current production.

His “mTechno Records” also rise in 2018 and wellcome new established artists from several continets in selected 4 releases and announce more good music in 2019.
