I wrote this original about the idea of devolution as a person or losing yourself to distraction and feeling unworthy or that your creations are not good, I fear rejection as a poet. 

Here is the original poem or let’s call it a piece of text, by Callum Conway

I feel like I have devolved from a fully developed being. 
I used to be in orbit with other people, 
and now I am but an asteroid floating 
through space waiting to crash 
into other porous people, 
letting our icy marrow shatter 
into the stratosphere before burning up, 
never to be seen again apart from 
a little piece of your stone that 
washed up on the shore to be 
locked in a locket by a forgotten lover — 
such knowledge of acts that come 
after might’ve been the ones to save us 
from losing ourselves in space. 

We forget that we are wanted. 
In the loneliness, we divide ourselves 
into little pieces 
that we feel are not worthy, 
but simply as we no longer 
see ourselves as whole. 

We are broken beings 
unable to finish the puzzle 
inside our minds that makes us, 
for we didn’t start at the outside,
build inwards as many suggest is 
the right way to go about an 
endeavour like a 5000-piece puzzle. 

We are left with patches 
like a field muddied from trekkers 
in the rain with but a few lush free 
patches left to graze on, 
to feed our thoughts, to nourish. 

We are so distraught at being unfinished that we forget to finish ourselves, 
forget to become ourselves, forget to be ourselves. We lose ourselves in the in-between, falling through the gaps in cardboard pieces into ravines below that can capture us forever if we are not careful. I have been sailing down a river on a corner piece that I worry is soon going to soak through and disintegrate, leaving me in the water unable to find my way back up, for puzzles seldom come with snakes and ladders for that is another plot line, a game we play in the background like all the others. We exhaust ourselves with games that never have an end, just bric-a-brac with missing parts floating through time until our timeline ends — but great art is often left unfinished for it was painted with fires that burned in the sheer intensity of distraction, of madness, of insanity. It’s an energy that tears us apart as much as it can pull us together, but we often pay the price of never quite fitting in, never quite fitting together, never quite being part of a finished puzzle.
