A live mix created from four simultaneous sources, based around a rusty fence and a small stream that runs from a meadow to a pipe under a road, and from there to a marshland area. Sources are a shotgun mic, condenser hydrophone, LOM geofon, and a piezo contact mic. Mixing was done using the level knobs on a Zoom F6 recorder while also moving the shotgun mic in space.

these are recordings from the protest against the muslim ban & anti-immigration order at the ri state house in providence, 01.29.2017.  while the event featured many speakers [local politicians, activists and organizers] over a couple hours, this is a condensed version focusing mainly on the massed voices of the crowd and their responses.  documentation.  a listening.  letting others speak.

it is inspired by iannis xenakis' writings, from Formalized Music, on "the sonic phenomena of a political crowd" where chants and slogans are taken up, spread, overlap and transition physically across space through the interactions of many individuals.

what relationships develop in the multiplicity of voices?  rhythms of call and response between amplified speakers and collective participants [not a passive audience].  the speed of sound as echoes disperse between buildings.  the attuning and entrainment of applause and nearly matching pitches of shouts.  all of the slight differences and simultaneous trajectories.  aggregated texture of the soundscape and individual gestures which emerge from it.  movements from along periphery to immersion.  a collective intentional embodiment of space.
