Kick - Sennheiser e602 dead center 1cm from head
Snare - Shure SM57 3cm in/up angled at centre of head (less Hi Hat)
Tom - Shure SM57 3cm in/up angled about 1/3 head (less snare)
Floor Tom - Shure SM57 3cm in/up angled about 1/3 head (less snare)
Over Heads - L + R Matched Pair of older Rode NT1s roughly 0.5m above cymbals and 1.5m from snare slight angle towards seated drummer
Room - Studio Projects C3 in cardioid roughly 1m in front of Kick level with cymbals angled just above drummer's head (placement limited due to sharing stand)

Processing:
Mostly Reductive EQ. Low cuts EVERYWHERE*
A few boosts on Kick and Snare
Some Compression added to each channel
Panned to match audience perspective
Limiter over Stereo Bus

Notes:
Have been operating solo, so can be a bit tricky to set microphone placement and gain structure.
Room is basically a cube so I've treated it by hanging a heavy tapestry and adding a few portable baffles. I like the balance of live reflections but not loving the timing of them. No dramatic standing waves, the ringing tones are my drums resonating like crazy because they are Sleishmans! Not a final treatment, just getting a basic sound.
*Battling lots of low end around me. Supermarket across from me has refrigeration/aircon humming away all day, also another mobile diesel generator from a pop up COVID testing site on the other side of my building.

Tom - Shure SM57 3cm in/up angled about 1/3 head (less snare)
Floor Tom - Shure SM57 3cm in/up angled about 1/3 head (less snare)
Over Heads - L + R Matched Pair of older Rode NT1s roughly 0.5m above cymbals and 1.5m from snare slight angle towards seated drummer
Room - Studio Projects C3 in cardioid placed on the floor outside the drum room loosely angled 45 degrees upwards

Guide Vocals - Improvised phonics more than lyrics
Guitars - Danelectro guitar into Danelectro clip on belt amp SM57 then processed further using soft amps and pedalboard fuzz etc
Wurlitzer - Soft instrument

Day 5: Drowning In Mountains Demo

Local musician Ming Lang will create and capture sound in a Darebin shopfront, inspired by the time and place, for two weeks.
