When we first started World Famous Headquarters it was really just an avenue for ourselves to do self-releases. We often get demos from amazing up and coming producers as well as established ones from around the world… but it really wasn’t until we received XTC from @daskapital and @mnnrmusic when we said “WOW. This is what a WFH release is." It’s classic, it’s future, it’s funky and it’s a real groover. We’re so proud to have this be the first non-Botnek release on our label. Have you ever heard the word “Haligonian”? How about “Donair”?

Well, believe it or not, a ‘Haligonian’ is a person born in Halifax, Nova Scotia aka the birthplace of Botnek and also the birthplace of your new future faves - @itscloverdale.  

“Octane” is the duo’s first release on WFHQ and it really, really rocks.  It’s got a big room techno vibe, that makes us think of Boys Noize Records, with a bit of the Chemical Brothers, and also that scene in Blade where it rains blood and it’s a rave and that was the first time I ever saw a club in a movie and I was like “wow dance music makes me really really afraid I hope to never be in a club also I’m like, 11 years old wow”

Anyhow! YES.  It’s a big ol stinker.  We love it a lot a lot a lot.  It’s super musical, but also just straight to the point, packing - not one - but two servings of your classic “wallop”.  We hope you dig it as much as us, and like always, if not, that’s fine too!

The first time we heard it here at WFHQ international enterprises, and got smashed with that big wall of beefy crunch, we knew it passed the test.  Those French kids really know how to turn it up a notch don’t they? How doooo they do it? Je ne sais pas. 

YYVNG has been in our DJ sets for a long while, he’s not afraid to get weird, and that’s what we love. THE BEAT GOES LIKE, HOW?

Like this: exactly however @giantofficialmusic says so.  

Hailing from Genova Italy, the land of dough, we’ve come to love the young trouble maker that calls himself GIANT.  There’s an attention to detail and sense of groove in his tunes that is really quite marvelous, and we simply like it.

Let’s talk more about these songs: “Take it Off”, a collab with DOGMA (what’s with the Italians and the caps lock??) is the real club zinger you didn’t know you wanted.   A nice meat and potatoes groove, with a hook that we kept singing around WFHQ for weeks.  That’s a sign of goodness.

And on the flip: “On & On” - now there’s a vibe.  This one turns the dial down a touch, making room for that smooth, and vibey synth lead line.  DARN IT’S GOOD.  It’s like a decadent marinara, spread it all around.  

So there you have it.  The skinny on the GIANT.  He’s a keeper, and so are these tunes, man.  We hope you like em too, and if not, hey, what can ya do?

Well, this is awkward.  We know what you’re thinking. 

“Guys, why in the HECK is your label’s 36th release titled ‘Three 6’ ???? ”

That’s definitely ALL that’s on your mind right now, we understand, and we’re here to set the record straight.  OK it’s true, it’s simply the way she goes.  But it’s pure coincidence.  You see, we here at WFHQ take music very seriously - and we firmly believe that titles are the essence of songs, and that songs are the essence of music.

Chicago’s @tombz has had such a smokin track record in the last year, and he really lays out the sauce heavy on this one.  A beefy groove, plenty of ear ticklers, and even a classic D.F.O. (Drop Fake Out) - what more could you ask for??  It’s been our perfect “we are playing tech house now but we want to floor it so let’s play dat track so we can crank it up a notch” track.  But it can be enjoyed lot’s of ways - any way you like!

And hey, all silliness aside, this really is a truly strange time, and it feels weird to be pushing anything besides good vibes right now.  So here you have it.  Quality good vibes - from Tombz, and all of us here at WFHQ - for wherever in the world you are washing your hands.

So you know when you’re playing Pokemon, right?  You’ve got your cards, you’ve got your guys, you’ve got your Pepsi.  You know.  Remember that feeling when you get that card to level up your Pokemon, and now shit is about to go absolutely insane, so you take a firm swig of your beverage?  Well if Pokemon was real life, the tournament was WFHQ, and the Pokemon was Sebastian Knight - that moment is right now, and our boy is evolving.

Stage 1 “Hit It”.  Stage 2 “Love That”.

Sebastian Knight, or “young Seb” as we lovingly call him at the headquarters, first smashed us in the ears a couple of years ago, and he’s been on our bench ever since.  He’s in that next league of players.  He’s the rare holographic card. 

“I don’t play Pokemon. What is going on?”

I got you.  It’s simple, two songs / jams / jammers / smashers / bashers / zingers - whatever you want to call them.  Two tracks designed to make you MOVE in two different sensual flavours.  “Hit It” smacks dat ass with dat blast of synth, before the sneak attack of wiggle bass.  While on the other side, “Love That” tenderly caresses dat ass with dat UK Garage swing and TRUMPET SOLO.  Hit it, or love it, there’s something for all the lovers out there.

Once upon a time, Botnek were on their first European tour, and as things go when touring abroad, we had a little downtime. No one is going to a club on a Tuesday afternoon. Well, apparently they get down like that in Germany, but I digress. So us two friendly wide eyed Canadians had some time to kill. We had stayed with some friends in Milano, and our next stop was a hotel in Bologna. This is where our story starts.

One room, two DJs, a sink filled with ice and beers. Neither of us spoke any Italian, but our Italian friends (see previous paragraph) had taught us 'the only two things [we] needed to know to survive in Italy':

'Ciao Bella' (Hello, Beautiful). 'Due Piadina' (Two Piadinas).
Here's what happened.

Day one, we walk into a sandwich shop next to our hotel. 'Ciao Bella. Due Piadina.' we say. The very, very Italian man behind the counter, has some counter questions - all to which we smiled and repeated the only two phrases we knew. He glowers. We receive two Italian flatbreads, filled with salty meats and cheese. Let me tell you, it was perfection.

The next day, we return to the shop. The same Italian man raises one eyebrow. The same Italian phrase was murmured from our mouths. We receive two Italian flatbreads. The man chuckles.

On our final day in Bologna, before heading to the train station, we stop in at the shop. The same Italian man sees us and before we can say anything, he smiles, and in a very, very Italian way, says 'Ciao Bella! Due Piadina!' We smile back. We had made a friend in Bologna. We had two more flatbreads, and were on our way.

So you see, a piadina is a very special Italian delicacy, and that is exactly what Genova Italy's GIANT has on the menu for us today. 'Bubble Shot' and 'Do it' - two very special tracks from our own Italian delicacy.
