alone in our bed we slept for days 
can’t cope with the death and pain  
… upset that it had to end this way  

it was a random scattering of phantom atoms 
the slow dance of remote chance and data 
I was amazed with what the numbers gave 
but just the same it couldn’t happened any other way 
as if to spite choice, genes mimicking genes 
a pattern out of the white noise of flickering screens 
I only recall the lovely dark for a picture flash 
the cold shoulder of Fall...a minute passed 
it comes apart when I try to remember 
inside my mother’s arms, her sighs in December 
before that was a lie and, shit, nothing’s changed
just grew up and made this Master Disguise stick   
…I got going to set it straight 
but only passed along broken genetic traits 
...gods vocals, the devil’s face 
guess I gotta stop hoping that I’ll ever get away 

… lowered our heads in shame 
alone in our bed we slept for days 
can’t cope with the death and pain  
… upset that it had to end this way  
drugged by the dream of yesterday 
showed up at the scene just a second late 
left to wait for redemption that never came 
just meaningless messages and endless space 

but I’m gone in my horizon, alone the soul breathes  
while your temples lie in silence in overgrown weeds 
sepulchre bones below Roman quotes 
and the moldy stones of holy thrones we don’t need
the ode’s of Old Creeds say that all’s made right 
soft daylight paused like Pompey sites 
moths take flight down the long cave hallways 
and dark shapes pace by 
a scene that’s lost in the receding memories 
the feeding trough of bleak repeating centuries
the uneasy thought that we’ll be eventually  
the meat that Gods need to bleed for energy 
the unavoidable fact that our toil and and our craft 
is just a bunch of noises at last 
all the glory we had, all our joy and laughs
is nothing but the soil and the grass 

… lowered our heads in shame 
alone in our bed we wept for days 
can’t cope with the death, decay 
… our efforts fade into depression, pain 
drugged by the dream of yesterday 
showed up at the scene just a second late 
left to wait for redemption that never came 
our meaningless messages sent in space
