Steppin’ out with their first VA release since the label’s inception in 1995, Worldship Music follows up the release of underground sensation Roberta’s The Brooklyn Ave Sessions with Herald Traccs Vol. 1. The record is a (mostly) LA based affair, starting with Jam’s Theme, a clever flip of a classic from veteran producer and former Underground Resistance member Santiago Salazar. Next up is En Echo, a deep and dubby affair from Echo Park’s Kelvin K, a seminal figure in SF’s early 00’s house scene. Label owners Teflon Dons open the B side with a tough, deep garage cut that would have likely set the UK garage scene on fire. Unfinished since '98, the Dons thankfully revisited this lost classic for some finishing touches. Rounding out the release is the mysterious Westcoast Goddess, whose First Tear emotes a melancholy beauty reminiscent of Hanna’s early work. Heading strong into their 26th year, underground house music is here to stay with Worldship. Look out for volume 2, the hunger continues…

Worldship Music returns to celebrate a very special anniversary. Twenty-five years is a considerable span in any human scale, and within the realm of dance music, it constitutes an eternity. For a release to maintain enduring appeal over such a prolonged period, there must be something extraordinary about it. "Tomorrow People" is nothing short of extraordinary.

Having released a limited 7" in 2019 featuring two versions, Worldship, in commemoration of its 25th anniversary, has undertaken a remaster and recut of the entire original 12" record, along with the addition of Bonus Beats as an anniversary gift.

"Tomorrow People" marks the recorded debut of the now widely recognized jazz vocalist Gregory Porter, produced by the Teflon Dons. Despite numerous house music remixes of his tracks over the years (many of which are quite good), none surpasses this one, a true garage classic. The Main Mix has not seen a re-release since the original record, but its twisted synth chords and funky bass have not aged a second. The Original Mix is a darker, more minimal affair, allowing Gregory's vocals to take center stage. The Teflon Dub introduces additional percussion for those late-night deep moments. The Bonus Beats, as the name suggests, deliver precisely what's promised.

Whether you were unaware at the time or perhaps not even born yet, you can now finally acquire a copy of this record without resorting to selling off any internal organs. And that is indeed a cause for celebration.

Worldship Music celebrates their second release of 2024 in fine style with a brand new record by renowned artist and songwriter Erik Rico's 53rd Street Quintet. In addition to expanding the Worldship roster, this release also marks a stylistic branching out into a contemporary soulful house sound, one that Erik's neo-soul drenched style is closely associated with and one you can hear played in Worldship head honcho Aaron Paar's DJ sets. 

The 53rd Street Quintet drop three jams across the A side, each one embracing a live feel replete with funky instrumentation. Lead cut "The Arrival" layers shouted exaltations alongside hand drums, scratchy guitar licks, and deep chords for dancefloor pleasure. "The Offering" adds some Latin flair to the mix, with the piano and sax riding on top of the infectious drum rhythm sure to get dancers moving. On "The Awakening" a barking electric piano takes the lead, with slick chord work and hand percussion providing the energy while haunting vocals add a dollop of atmosphere on top. 

Over on the B side you can find the Teflon Dons doing their thing, this time with two different remixes of "The Offering". AP's OG Remix Dub shapes proceedings into a classic garage vibe, with cut up sax and strings that work with the drums and bass to transform the track into an MK fan's wet dream. The Teflon Royale Dub takes the track even deeper, increasing the bassline pressure while the echoes drag the piano through the stratosphere into outer space. This is the kind of track sure to have the trainspotters making the stankface while scrambling to find out what it is: simple, yet banging.

After a nearly 20 year hiatus, Aaron Paar’s Worldship Music imprint is back in full effect with its 3rd and final release of 2019. Greg “Ski” Royal, the mixing engineer for all of the Teflon Dons releases to date steps from behind the mixing board to flex his production chops on this 3 track 12”. With remix and production credits dating back to 1984, including the dub mix of Patrice Rushen – “Feels So Real (Won’t Let Go)”, Greg is no stranger to soulful, groovy music, but was mostly known for his hip-hop and R&B remixes. However, in 1994 under the Royal Phenomena alias, Greg released a self-titled deep house EP in extremely limited quantities. “The Pur Royale Project” EP features “Down Fifth Avenue” from the aforementioned 1994 record as well as “Christopher”, a previously unreleased song of the same era featuring Greg Bowers on vocals. Both tracks represent the rugged garage aesthetic championed by Worldship for decades, and fit perfectly into the DJ bags of the true-school deep house aficionados who are fans of the Teflon Dons sound. This 12” brings the “unfinished business” chapter of the Worldship story to a close, but keep your ear to the ground for more quality from one of dance music’s unsung heroes, the Teflon Dons.

Creeping through the shadows of garage music is a clan of Kung Fu warriors, trained to be undetectable even as their targets find themselves bleeding out, wondering how their end came so quickly. This clan is known as the Teflon Dons, renowned practitioners of the mysterious Worldship Music technique. The Teflon Dons emerge, strike, and then disappear until their services are required once again. Some believe the periods of silence mean the Dons have dispersed permanently and they can then do as they please.... they pay for this misperception with their lives.

The Dons’ most recent emergence was 2016’s deadly double blade attack on Must Have Records, which revealed some of their early teachings that were thought to have been lost.  These teachings were originally known as The Heroic Bloodshed Scrolls. Today we are pleased to reveal three more of these previously hidden scrolls of the Teflon Dons Vs. The Si-Fan, to help form a more complete picture of their early years.

“Movements In The Opium Den (Reston Edit)” was part of a very limited 100 copies pressed assassination at WMC 1998, hinting at what might have been. The formula here was created from intense study of the sacred text: Marvel’s Shang Chi Master of Kung Fu. 

The Dons pick up where John Woo and Chow Yun Fat left off with the musical sequel “A Better Tomorrow 4”. Double fisted gun blasts of deepness show that the Teflon Dons can adapt to any weaponry in their pursuit of killer grooves.

On “Scorpion #3” the Dons pay homage to the Shaw Brothers’ classic The Five Deadly Venoms, calling on James Duncan’s lethal horn skills to help slice and dice an ancient tome into something brand new and never before witnessed. Additional sharpness provided by the wicked mixing skills of sensei Gregski.

With the teachings of Teflon Dons Vs The Si-Fan now fully realized in wax, all sucker DJs are forced to recognize the indomitable style of the Worldship Music technique or be prepared to pay the ultimate price: their lives.

Worldship Music is proud to present their newest release, “Afro-LaTeena” by the Trilaterals. The Trilaterals are a trio of LA based producer/djs who’ve recently released a number of R&B/Soul reworks. This is the 2nd 7’’ vinyl release on the Worldship Music imprint.

The track is produced by LA radio legend Kristi Lomax, whose blessed the LA landscape with her selections for over 20 years. In the last few years Kristi has turned her talents to production and has reworked a classic from Teena Marie into an Afro-tinged affair, complete with classic house chords and chugging tempo. 

The B side contains the Teflon Royale Remix, a collaboration by the Teflon Don’s Aaron Paar and Greg Royal. This mix takes elements from the original, flips the chords, and re-arranges into an extended dance number. Both cuts should fit well in many DJ sets that bridge the Pan-African sound with deep house and global soul music.

Worldship Music began releasing music in 1995 by Aaron Paar with the "Planet Eater" EP. Aaron then formed the Teflon Dons with Dave Fogg as well as utilizing the mix engineering talents of Greg Ski Royal whom then went on to release 7 consecutive 12"'s over a 6 year period. After a hiatus of almost 19 years the Worldship Label has been Re-Launched with new focus and mission to continue where it left off with some new releases coming in 2019 and beyond.
