BombWoman is a devised play that includes improvisation and music. The inspiration for this play came from the economic crisis we have been experiencing in Europe over the last few years. BombWoman is a collection of scenes, each of them framed by real and surreal scenarios. Multiple layers of narrative merge into the story of two lovers, two soldiers, two dreamers.

This 21 track ‘best of’ album includes Pink Martini’s most acclaimed numbers alongside eight previously unreleased songs in a deluxe packaging that includes a 48 page photo book of rare Polaroids taken by bandleader Thomas M. Lauderdale. The album spans the band’s 16-plus year career and features appearances by Saori Yuki, Hiroshi Wada, Michael Feinstein, Georges Moustaki and Director Gus Van Sant making his recording debut.

The idea is to mix the roots of American music with the various forms of world music to create an unusual otherworldly sound. The result is unique! With the energy of a Romanian brass band, blues, country, jazz, pop and soul of the 1920s and ’30s to the ’50s and ’60s meets Klezmer, Jamaican calypso, New Orleans R, swing, avant-garde jazz, Tuvan-Mongolian ballads and Middle Eastern fables.

The driving force behind the World Village label is that the music we release usually finds us, just as it would in any village. If we feel strongly about the music, then we’ll release the CD. It’s as simple as that - there won’t be any ‘market research’ beforehand. Therefore, the music we choose can be any new music, as long as it has soul. World Village will favor artists that are original and have a great story to tell. They may be well known and already have a buzz going, or they may be a totally new discovery. World Village may even release traditional music, as long as it is amazing and avoids cultural clichés. We’ll approach each project with the classic question: Will this sound great ten years from now?
