Twenty years after his first appearance on the label, moody, dub-tech vibes abound on 'Wicked People', the new Worship Recordings release by Grant Dell.

First joining the Worship Recordings roster in 2003 with his 'Touch Dub' EP, London producer Grant Dell has had over 50 releases under various monikers, including Uhuru Beats, Croydon Punks Ltd, Masonic Noodles and the Chicago Transit Authority. His first release as Tribalation on Loaded Records was licensed on to Strictly Rhythm, and the rest is dance music history. As well as the obvious Chicago House and Detroit Techno influences, Grant's eclectic tastes range from Basic Channel to Barrington Levy, and it's the latter lineage that runs most potently through 'Wicked People'.

With flawless sonics and a powerful vocal performance by Jamaican DJ Tennant, 'Wicked People' fits perfectly alongside the moody dub-house sounds that Worship Recordings has pioneered and developed over the past two decades.

Grant Dell: "the story began when I sent a rough take of the rhythm track to Delton Screechie in Jamaica, to voice a song on. DJ Tennant was in the studio that day and started vibing while the track was playing and the result was the 'Wicked People' chant. It's more of a spoken word vibe than a full on toast but it worked well with the groove, which was leaning more towards a House rhythm. Delton sent me the parts back and I created the rest of the track, adding the wobbly acid line and built up more drum parts and effects. Rob from Worship reached out a few months back wanting to do a 20 year follow up to my 'Touch Dub' release, and I thought this would fit nicely, as it builds that bridge between House, Dub & Reggae that I love so much and Worship are known for... Enjoy & JAH BLESS"

Rob Paine: "I think Grant sent a demo to the label back in 2002 - we loved it and put it out in May of 2003. We remained pen pals. Sometimes a few years would go in between communication, but we always managed to link up once again. Usually through the love of reggae music. I always wanted another release from him for Worship. The universe brought us together at the right time, and I think this one is going to rank high in the underground."

Calgary's own Jon Delerious makes his Worship Recordings label debut with a bouncy Dub House jam entitled ‘Sound Box’, which comes complete with a remix from Hipp-E and Rob Paine.

Jon Delerious has been a stalwart of Canada’s thriving House music scene since the 90s, with previous releases on imprints such as Nordic Trax and  Large Music releases championed by the likes of Gilles Peterson and Laurent Garnier. Boasting low end rumble that will surely cause even the tightest trousers to flap, ’Sound Box’ is simply a good honest House groove, featuring dub sirens and dancehall vibes galore.

“I’ve always had a love of Dub and reggae music, and I knew I wanted to make a dub heavy roller of a track” says Delerious. “It’s all about the groove and the big bass line on this one, it definitely delivers on a big sound system, hence the title of the track.”

For the remix, Worship Recordings founder Rob Paine linked up with longtime friend Hipp-E in Denver, where the pair got busy in the studio raising the tempo and summoning up a true head-down, late night rolling Dub/Tech riddim, primed to do serious damage on the dancefloor.

Celebrating his 30th year in the music biz in 2023, Hipp-E expands a little about the the release: “I loved the Dub vibe on the original track, and felt we took it straight to the warehouse on this mix, utilizing some chuggy beats and heavy bass. Grateful for the relationship with Rob and Worship Records, and Cyaaant wait to see this hit the dance floor!”

“I couldn’t be more stoked for the Remix by Rob and Hipp-e” says Jon “I’m a huge fan of Hipp-e’s music and have been playing his records forever. H-Foundation / Hipp-E is a legend!”

As Rob Paine puts it, “I was less than halfway through listening ‘Sound Box’ and I already knew this was going to be the next Worship release. Jon absolutely crushed this one! Eric (Hipp-E) and I finally made some time to work together again, after talking about it for way too long. Just like my first listening experience, Eric was hooked immediately and we jumped right into this one. I am super happy with the way it came out. And with my recent road test of it, I think a lot of dance floors across the world will be happy as well.”

Worship Recordings revisits deep and soulful cut ‘Love Right Now’ by Lady Alma, Joey Crawford and Rob Paine, with a brand new dancefloor-ready remix by Homero Espinosa.

Originally issued in February 2023, 'Love Right Now' saw Worship Recordings founder Rob Paine reconnect with label stalwarts Lady Alma and Joey Crawford, with a remix by Philly hero Pete Moss.

"In crafting this remix," says Homero Espinosa, "I leaned heavily on the Roland MC-307, a vintage treasure acquired during the pandemic. This piece of equipment propelled me towards creating a sound reminiscent of the classic late '90s Strictly Rhythm, yet infused with a modern flair. Thrilled with the enthusiastic support from Rob and team, this remix became a playground where past met present, producing a sound both familiar and fresh. Hope ya dig!"

Philadelphia’s Worship Recordings returns with a deep dub cut entitled ‘Psalms’ by 3three3, presented with a dancefloor reworking by Liondub and label boss Rob Paine.

3three3 is a mystical mystery of dub music. The members of this shadowy trio prefer to keep their identities hidden in fear of the Babylon institutions infiltrating their creative process. We’ve heard various rumours that one could be a direct descendant of King Tubby. Another one may have been Lee Perry’s assistant, somehow emerging from the smoking ashes of the Black Ark studio with a perfectly intact Echoplex tape delay unit. Unfortunately we may never know the truth, so the truth must be sought within the music itself.

‘Psalms’ is a hypnotic and spiritual electronic dub track, filled with warm fuzzy analog atmospheres and conscious spoken word lyrics, spirits raised in prayer to the most high. Respected New York producer Liondub invited Rob Paine to his Bedford NY studio, where the pair served up a straight-up dancefloor revision of ‘Psalms’, piercing the smoke-filled atmosphere of the original with powerful lo-fi effects and a heavy dubwise bassline.

“This truly was a mystical encounter with the evasive 3three3 producers” says Rob Paine. “As soon as I heard the original I knew it was going to be released on Worship. It represents the deeper dub side we issue every once in a while, weaving in between the house releases. This one is for the die hard Worship dub house/ techno enthusiasts."

“Liondub has been a longtime friend and inspiration to me" Paine continues. "He is no stranger to the label, with a remix for Heights & Worship’s ’Teach Dem’ release back in 2015. Like me, Liondub doesn’t isolate himself to just reggae music. After years of trying to make our schedules line up we finally got together in the lab and banged out the remix for ‘Psalms’, making it a touch more dancefloor friendly."

Liondub: "I've always loved and respected Worship Recordings, and it's been an honor to work with the label and alongside Rob Paine for well over two decades now. When I first heard ‘Psalms’, I was immediately inspired by the track and its message. The approach for the remix was simple, and the process of crafting it with Rob in studio came easily and came naturally. Rocket blasts out of Babylon and into irie heights. Who would have spoken the prophecy that DJ Garth and Eric James would land in the same city of San Fran to produce their strongest single to date? At the controls of Grayhound Recordings and part of the legendary Wicked Sound System, worship recordings has been blessed again with another top notch producer with his alias Rocket which he holds tight with producer Eric James.

The original mix of "Standby' comes across with Rocket's trademark punchy drum riddims that are woven with dub explosions building the track into a strong tune that will guarantee to rock any dance floor of tribespeople. The modulation of the bass line changing keys gives the track even more of a lift to keep it bubbling along all the way to Zion.

'Stand dub' takes a liking to the original but simmers down a bit with some padded chords and a bit of a swing created by the drum riddim. A mix dedicated to that deep early morning set at a party or that small club that you never want to close when the lights are turned on. Nuff respect to the Rocket.

The flip is a creation formulated by no other than Worship's own Solomonic Sound (aka Rob Paine/Zach Eberz). Beginning the track with a sort of tribal ambience with the man reasoning about his definition of dub music it gradually escalates into shape and soon enough a rough and bass heavy 4/4 groove starts running the tune. With some dubbed chords and a sweet melody starting to take presence it drops into a heart beat to break the tune up and then set you straight back into the bass heavy riddim that will take your head on a serious trip into that spot where dub and house music walk hand and hand to the most love full heights.

Yes I, Solomonic Sound comes in ruff and tough with this dancefloor killer. Showing that dub music can hit the dancefloor in all forms, 'Come Fi Mash It' is one of the more bangin' tunes that the Solomonic bredrens have engulfed on since their first release back in 1998. The title track starts off like it could be on the deep tribal side with live percussion. But give it about a minute and this bass rollin' lion will start building into a horn frenzy that doesn't peak until about four and a half minutes deep into the track. The momentum never stops and will take even the soberest person on a journey. The following ‘Chem Beats' is for the tracky DJ that likes it all at once.

But for those who are fiending for that deep, bubbling dub house - no need to fret cause the flip is filled with it. 'Mash Down Dub' takys a look at Solomonic's deep, dubby, tech side that these rastas have made a name for themselves with. Dark textures with airy pads. Blessings. By now, everyone should know at least one Håkan Lidbo tune that has caught their ear and pocket these past few years. Having recorded tracks for Loaded, Paper, Moody & Fiji Recordings to name just a few, Håkan has blessed our camp with a special dub influenced tech house EP that he ever so carefully crafted for our label.

"Natty Roots” begins the journey with a rub-a-dub stylee deep tech house chune that runs a tweeked out ragga muffin vocal over a chunky drum track with snappy fills that will break your neck, it’s so tight.

The bass that rolls off of "Dirty Politician” from the
beginning is a driving force that eventually builds into a surprisingly melodic trance of
mystic dub for the dance floor. A title appropriate for our current situation in the good ol U.S. of Babylon A.

"Trinity” falls into the same realm as “Natty Roots” using a DJ style vocal that speaks of the suppression and violence that rings out everyday in this world’s ghettoes.

Pete Moss, originally hailing from Boston and now a Philadelphia local, needs little introduction to the deep house massive. In addition, Pete has been good to the Philly scene, remixing und doing original work for local imprints Worship, Ovum, and Society Hill since he moved to the 215.

Succulent is the joint effort of LA area’s Nectar and DJ Sean Kamano. They have collectively released on Worship and Grayhound Recordings in the past year. Expect a lot more quality West Coast sounds from this duo in 2002.

Side A’s ‘Chin Up’ begins with a chugging big room drum loop that breaks into a dubbed out roller for the big room. Sprinkled with ragga influenced keys, this will please variety of ears with its big room stomp and dub-wise appeal. Next up is some massive dubbed out tribal business with a ‘Ital Progression’, a rumbling sub-bassline spaced out synth stabs and heavily delayed patois sample makes this a perfect late night selection.

The B-Side kicks off with ‘Freshly’ - stabby pads engulf this track laden with rolling percussion, monster dub bass work and a filtered and delayed rasta exclamation. Moving yet deep and headstrong.

Finally we have Solomonic Sound (Rob Paine and Zack Eberz) with a remix of ‘Freshly’. ‘Freshly Solomonic’ is a top-notch dubbed out tech house stormer built to burn up the dancefloor. A huge rolling bassline and intricate synth stabs fill the track with the signature Solomonic brand of reggae house fusion.

Hailing up from Vancouver, rude-bwoy producer Jay Tripwire links up with the Worship
family to debut his awaited "Fever" EP. With a slew of records out on various labels such
as Tango, Big Chief, Swag and Fine Funk among others, Jay Is a leading player in today's dub house sound.

A1. The long side cut features crisp driving drums, a sub-bass line that creeps in like some fine bio, rippling synths stabs and of course the dub factor working the vocal drops.

B1. This features chunkier drums, a quirky and catchy synth line, and yes, bass. Mr. Tripwire takes his time giving it to the massive, opting to break it down first, but then unleashes a gritty and deep b-line that opens up the track.

In The Dub Tonight - Rob Paine, Heights

Worship Recordings was established in the summer of 1998 in Philadelphia by Rob Paine. The concept was simple at first: they just wanted to put out their own music their own way. After the first few releases it became clear that they had dropped in on a genre of house music that has slowly but surely come to fruition, now being labeled by the massive as "dub house". They knew they were not the first to use the influence of Jamaican reggae music as a foundation for their house productions, but they definitely wanted to continue to push it to new heights in both the house community and progressive reggae scene. 

What started out as an in-house production label, Worship soon started to sign like- minded artists such as: Garth, Chris Udoh, Pete Moss, Solomonic Sound, Hakan Lidbo, Jay Tripwire and Grant Dell- just to name a few. Some Worship releases are more dub than house and vice versa - but all releases are pure quality. From the music’s production quality to the legendary KLH art work and right down to the packaging, Worship Recordings is never slacking. They continue to explore new methods of using reggae and house music side by side to reach lovers of both sounds and to unite them in the dance hall as ONE.
