Worst Records opens up a new chapter of its musical odyssey with WORST LTD, the brand new sublabel dedicated to intriguing ambient explorations and abstract experiments released in small quantities on CD.

For this first opus, C. Coiffure is back among us with a deeply conscious concept-album. Born from the idea that mankind is the antithesis of harmony in its relation to nature, and considering that other lifeforms manage to create a balance between them and their environment that we often struggle to fully understand, C. Coiffure pays homage to the organic beauty of these biotopes. « Freefloat » is a sonic continuum where electronics and field recording melt in each other, without any real interruption, creating almost autonomous structures and symbiosis that siphonophores, bee hives and ant citadels can incarnate as well. 
Conceived as a whole, this first album of the new catalogue isn't limited by the illusion of an accomplished perfection and instead puts an awakening light on the nobility of happy accidents and the invisible harmony that surrounds us. An ode to life to start a new sonic saga.

Pour ce premier opus, C. Coiffure est de retour parmi nous avec rien de moins qu'un concept-album tressé telle une fable écologique. Partant du constat que la vie à l'échelle humaine est l'antithèse de l'harmonie avec son environnement, et que d'autres formes de vie parviennent, elles, à évoluer avec une cohérence et un équilibre qui nous échappent, C. Coiffure a souhaité rendre hommage à la beauté organique de ces biotopes. « Freefloat » se présente ainsi comme un continuum sonore où électronique et field recording s'entrelacent sans interruption réelle, formant des structures et des symbioses presque autonomes, à l'image des ruches, des siphonophores, des colonies de fourmis. 
Conçu comme un tout, ce premier album du catalogue ne s'enferme pas pour autant dans la finitude d'une perfection artificielle, et donne à voir la noblesse de l'imprévu dans la création ainsi que la délicate et invisible cohésion qui règne autour de nous sans que nous n'en ayons le plus souvent conscience. Une ode à la vie qui inaugure une nouvelle saga sonore.

What makes a being ? What tends to be, always, and yet remains never achieved ? @jonnnah puts on this set of imagination many parts, many pieces, many elements. In this ninth release on Worst Records, the Lyon based musician gathers all the impressions defining this nebula. « Mental & Physical » is a collection above all things. We talk about a collection of influences. Industrialized trip-hop, dubstep for concrete spaces, new-age-infused ambient daydreams, links are hazy but incarnate. A constant rotation, between extasy and uneasy meditation, shapes this mass of artefacts that seems almost involuntary as they dig so deep into instinctiveness. At the root of this first magmatic opus lies a years long work in progress, a sonic research, the attempt to make live this body of vapour which is the music in becoming. It's a listening with no answer, but the pulse is vivid and vital.

Qu'est ce qui fait un être ? Qu'est ce qui tend à l'être, toujours et pourtant jamais achevé ? @jonnnah pose sur la table de l'imaginaire des parties, des pièces, des éléments. Avec ce neuvième volet de Worst Records, le lyonnais liste toutes les impressions qui dessinent cette nébuleuse. « Mental & Physical » est avant tout une collection. Collection d'influences tout d'abord. Trip-hop industrialisante, dubstep pour tunnels de béton, ambient subtilement new-age, les ponts sont ténus mais réels et palpables. Collection de sens également. Une rotation permanente, entre extase et recueillement inquiet, sculpte cet amas incertain d'artefacts qu'on dirait presque involontaires tant ils creusent dans l'instinctif. A la génèse de ce premier opus magmatique se trouve un work in progress de plusieurs années, une recherche sonore, la tentative de faire vivre ce corps toujours vaporeux de la musique en devenir. Une écoute sans réponses, mais à la pulsation vitale intacte et organique.

Amsterdam's Osàre! Editions and Berlin's Sameheads team up to present a spicey spilt-side release. A hot take on new wave-saturated punk, the record flirts with the raw sound of the underground, spiralling through free-wheeling experimentation and raucous evenings, powered by throbbing revelry.
First up, three-piece assemblage Taurus crank up an electrified automaton for 'Paket.' With a voice like a supermarket tannoy from a half-forgotten fever dream, Diana Barbosa Gil reels through the days of the week, accompanied by a minimalist, plodding melody. Exploring ideas of self-determination and authority, the band combines spoken-word surreality and in-your-face dance zeal. 'Spielen' captures their palpable chemistry on-stage – the track was recorded live during Sameheads event series Diapason, curated by residents Eva Geist and Ondula.
Turning over to the B-side, upping the ante and the tempo, Schulverweis follow in the footsteps of the Geniale Dilletanten tradition. Art-haus proclivities bounce along to an ear-worm beat in 'Schwarzfahren,' followed up by the bass-whistling wizardry of 'Ichbineinarzt.' Before going out with a bang, howl and a whimper via the aptly titled 'Blut.' Schulverweis' slick delivery is entirely instinctual, improvised in jam sessions over hypnotic loops produced using a children's Casio keyboard, discovered years ago in the dusty corner of a club.
The EP is a testament to the long-standing collaboration between the dual imprints, with Osàre! label boss Elena Colombi appearing frequently on Sameheads lineups. The pair are further united by their shared passion for explosive new talent and all things a little unconventional.

It's time for celebration ! As the Worst Records adventure goes on and on, let's take a moment for a multiverse reunion in the form of our first Greatest Hits compilation. This imaginary space is the meeting point between some figures of our hometown and others from outer lands.

You will cross the paths of the authors of the first three releases of the label, namely A Strange Wedding, Christian Coiffure and Jacques Satre (also delivering a mind-warping session under Babiah 8000 alongside Saint-Etienne's activist Farkoner). You'll also hear from Del.Duc & Basic, members of the Positive Education crew. As special guests, we wanted to put some highlights on intriguing faces such as Itako, Gil.Barte and Tassilo Vanhoefen, providing there slow-motion, heavy dream-powered tunes in the style we adore so much. Beesmunt Soundsystem and Black Seed bring up some notable contributions from outside of France, whether it is for a raindance session or a tribal expedition. 
How to sum up this whole vortex of trippy blocks of sound ? Our dear friend Eiger Drums Propaganda has the answer in the opening track : some strange things happen in this city... and this city is Saint Etienne. This being said in a malicious voice, of course.

And then came the Visitations.

The fifth opus of the Worst Records library could appear as an audiobook for transcendental meditations. If the idea of trance-induced state is no surprise in the music we deliver to the world, this new album by Ricco goes beyond. The pair formed by Gil.Barte, head of Kump Records, and HLM38, in charge of house Notte Brigante, dare to offer a sinuous collection of mantras melted in light, silver dust and darkness. Each track navigates through ritualistic slow beats, drum'n'bass-ish half tempo incantations and other mystic hybrid forms not so far from Kode 9esque or Shakletonists reminiscences, just to name a few. The titles evoke a spiritual diagonal, from biblical to islamic worlds and arcanes, passing through persian tradition and obscure references hard to decipher. Several interludes, leading to the final Prelude, stand as resting rooms to drown the listener into purifying dark-ambient, where glitches of enlightenment and distants sounds from nature slowly disappear in divine drones. You now hold in your hands a keyholder to somewhere else, a sonic ally through everyday chaos, and spells to protect the soul.

"This is Bizarr, my first full length record. On this release, I tried to amp up the ritualistic tendencies found on the Diabel EP, which was also released at Knekelhuis. I’ve always been intrigued by the world of rituals and transcendence, both from an anthropological and spiritual perspective. Bizarr is built around these concepts and to create it I traveled to the island of Phuket, Thailand, to experience and embrace the soul and spirit of the Nine Emperor Gods festival, also known as the Vegetarian Festival. It has its origins in the beginning of the 19th century and is held annually in September/October in accordance with the Chinese lunar calendar. The latter makes sense, because Phuket is home to a large Taoist Chinese minority, an ethnic group calling themselves Peranakan. They are descendants of Chinese settlers, who believe that abstinence from meat and various stimulants is beneficial to good health, peace, and purity of the mind. The celebrations include performances held to invoke the gods, where white-clad participants act like mediums. These so-called Masong strive to achieve a pure state of being that enables them to connect with their ancestors and demons. When this state of trance is reached, ancestors are able to enter body and soul. Flagellation and auto-mutilation are used to reach this possessed plain of consciousness. These acts of piercing, flagellating and puncturing different body parts with knives, swords and other items simultaneously enhance this state. It may look torturous, but pain is absent due to the trance-like state and the protection of the gods, resulting in little blood or scarring.  
 
This fascination for these unusual rituals didn’t come out of thin air. My music has been deeply influenced by the legendary Coil, whose Peter Christopherson (also of Throbbing Gristle fame) moved to Thailand after Coil co-member Jhonn Balance died in 2004. Peter explored the world of Thai ritualistic culture as The Threshold HouseBoys Choir, releasing Form Grows Rampant, an album based on material collected at GinJae festival, a Nine Emperor Gods variation held in the Thai Krabi region. Unfortunately, Christopherson’s untimely death prevented him from furthering his explorations into the sound and spirit of his new country of residence. The Threshold HouseBoys Choir’s music and videos clearly paved the way for my interest in Thai culture. I delved into the world of Thai ritual practices, reading and watching as many sources as possible, before deciding to take things a step further by visiting the Vegetarian festival myself. This truly emotional and deeply inspirational journey left an indelible impression on me. I sensed something I can only describe as ‘vision almost tangible’, which gave me a very clear view on how the record would materialize. Bizarr signifies a defining step for me as an artist. The whole experience not only taught me a lot about the otherness of Thai culture, but even more so about the peculiarities of Western society - especially the superficiality of solely focusing on material gain."

Sepehr Alimagham for his debut album ‘Shaytoon’. Drenched in nostalgia from his upbringing, ‘Shaytoon’ pays homage to 1970s Iranian albums that were on rotation throughout his youth. Eight tracks of twisted acid, left-of center electro, sludgy psychedelia, and things-you-can-maybe-call-techno are a few of the sonic elements found within. Regular listeners will find Sepehr’s signature perspiratory dance-floor vibe, but some songs also showcase a low-slung, cerebral approach. Sepehr's unique sonic palette carves an interesting space in the dance music world by harnessing the spirit of his cultural ancestors. The artwork pays tribute to ‘70s Iranian pop and funk albums with bold Farsi calligraphy and portraits by Sahra Jajarmikhayat. In relation to the music, the album cover creates a dichotomy much like Throbbing Gristle's ’20 Funk Jazz Greats’. Berakhs (Dance).

Sepehr - Neophyte Delight

Like a shadowplay for endtimes.

Tamburi Neri, a duo from Milan, joins Worst Records' strange catalogue with their debut LP. Soberly named « Ombre », it's an organic entity filled with worry. If we discover again with pleasure their signature scarce and elegant style which drew the tension of their first releases, everything here is sewn as a delicate echo chamber. Hiroko's voice responds to a relentless male spoken word, with invocations sometimes vaporous and sometimes lyrical. It's a poetic canvas suspended over the void and balanced by hypnotic rythms on one side and synthetic avant-garde minimalism on the other.
This eighth pannel of Worst's catalogue sets itself as a contemporanean piece far away from genre identifications and beautifully possessed in equal freshness and enlightening maturity.

Comme un clair-obscur pour temps morts.

Tamburi Neri, duo milanais, rejoint le drôle de catalogue de Worst Records avec rien moins que leur premier LP. Le sobrement nommé « Ombre » est un objet aussi organique que pétri d'inquiétude. Si l'on retrouve ici leur style parfois minimaliste et décharné à l'élégance toute arty qui faisait le ferment de leurs premiers disques, c'est une chambre d'écho à l'incroyable finesse qu'ils déploient ici. Au spoken word tissant le canevas des tableaux de chaque track répond la voix de Hiroko, tantôt invocatrice tantôt fantomatique ou bien lyrique. Une trame poétique toujours portée par un équilibre ténu entre rythmes hypnotiques et minimalisme synthétique aux accents d'avant-garde des temps passés. Ce huitième volet du catalogue de Worst se pose ainsi comme une pièce contemporaine inclassable et habitée, dont la fraîcheur n'a décidément d'égale que la maturité lumineuse.
