OS Premiere: Dites Safran - Rouj [Man Band]

Lucid Juice is now a label, and what better way to kick things off for LJR001, than with a 3 track EP from Manchester based producer Dulha. Coming off the back of releases for Interpolate, Daytimers and Gimme a Break, We’ve been lucky enough to be gifted ‘Wat Wer U Finkin?’ A trio of bass music hybrids that’ll have you thinking that you should be dancing.

Straight out the gate is the title track, a weighty slice of 2-step grime pushing at 142bpm; overbearing skyscraper dread looms atop distorted synths & sirens, while skittering vocal samples snap together with tight percussion. This is until it all spirals out in the breakdown, as the bass takes over and the beat shifts, before coming back together and sending it home.

‘Wat Wer U Finkin?’ will be available digitally from April 29th 2022.

It's our favorite time of year! NYC/LA-based Worst Behavior Recs is back with their third annual compilation, "Worst Behavior, Vol. 3" and we couldn't be more excited. With the expert guidance of producer/DJ/promoter/label bosses Anna Morgan and Bell Curve steering the ship, we watched Worst Behavior come speeding out of the gate in 2018, and that momentum has shown no signs of slowing. With three compilations and several single releases under their belt, featuring BnC favorites like DJ Madd, Sinistarr, Samurai Breaks, A. Fruit, and many more, the label's output has been consistently high-caliber. When we think of uptempo bass music imprints in North America, especially in that sweetspot between footwork and jungle with a touch of rave and soundsystem culture, Worst Behavior is undoubtedly holding the torch.

Our premiere today from their third compilation offering comes from another BnC favorite: Leicester, UK's Jon1st. After originally gaining popularity for his phenomenal turntablism (see his 2013 Online DMC World Championship title or official routines for folks like Ivy Lab for credentials), Jon has been focusing more heavily on production the past several years, and it shows. His work with Copenhagen-based Shield has taken the global beat music scene by storm (if you have a chance to catch their live performance, don't miss it!) and his collaborations with folks like DJ CRAZE, EAN, and BSN Posse have been running the circuit in DJ sets and radio shows all over, too. However, today's offering comes in the form of the debut solo production from Jon1st, "Rose Point". A melodic double-time tune clocking in at 160 bpm with touches of amen breaks and footwork percussion that will be sure to get you moving in your seat, "Rose Point" was more than worth the wait for solo Jon1st material. Worst Behavior's third compilation explores hybrid bass mutations from chilled downtempo to peak rave. The compilation features a blend of Worst Behavior alumni like A.Fruit, A-0, Jon1st, Bell Curve, and Samurai Breaks, and new artists including DJ Swisha, Yazzus, and Stranjah.

A portion of profits from the release are going to Eden Reforestation, which plants trees in deforested countries, and G.L.I.T.S., a Black-trans founded organization that supports trans sexworkers and advocates politically for trans people.

On ‘Pots & Pans’, Le Motel uses organic elements stacking them against stems filled with bass and drums, adding to his excellent back catalogue of self-releases and collaborative projects.

Leading with ’Azande’, the track blends UK Garage, dub techno, and jungle and features hypnotic chants from Wayo - a small village in South Sudan. In this village music is king and everyone is a master of their shared sound which summons ancient polyrhythms of Africa’s newest nation.

‘Shaolin’ is a dark dubstep production featuring Nigerian MC, Magugu. The Shaolin training teaches you how to be sharp in a dangerous environment, ‘we come in peace but ready to defend our peace’.

On the last two tracks (‘Work Your Back’ and ‘Ay Chica’), Le Motel dominates with a brilliant blend of his varying influences whilst staying true to his focus of driving drums and weighty bass.
