Now that I've been doing this 'Wou-Wou...' malarkey for a year, I thought it'd be fun to do a special retrospective playlist filled with my favourite tracks thus far. So here it is.

It's pretty long, as I thought that 52 tracks (to mark each week in a year) was a good figure to work with. This one was born from a drum track by https://soundcloud.com/midipunk called "mountains of dishes and laundry"; I used them completely unedited, creating the song to follow the arrangement and dynamics that were implied as Pete had recorded his thing.

The song is about reincarnation and a Humpback whale. It has themes about cars, shoes (and walking a mile in another's before judgement) human bodies as nested personalities/egos all mixed together. Understanding the layers of people's personalities and the essence (greater than sum of parts) beneath. I think I'm getting at… narcissim as a personality disorder being an inversion of this energy - where too much of the soul's potential is used to hide from fear instead of being open to love.

The other similar thing it does is help people understand the role of drums as music rather than just keeping time - this whole song grew out of the drums as a starting point - but without any knowledge of the musician who played them.

So when asking "are drums music?" - or "is music greater than the sum of its parts?" - I think this goes to show that if it's not destiny or fate or any other predetermined thing - it must be 'something' other than drums or time keeping or or or or etc - love?

He was still 'standing to attention' when he walked out of the bedroom. She watched, with one eye open, and laughed into the pillow with a coldness that betrayed just what she was really thinking. 
And he never even knew that she wasn't really sleeping.
She was possessed by a devil but her scent was heaven sent. He faltered in his footsteps when he considered what she meant when she told him that she loved him but she 'didn't really need him anymore'. 
And he thought, "If life is a lesson, if life is a lesson, what have I learned? if life is a lesson, what have I learned?".

She didn't know why she had told him but now the cat was out of the bag. And she wanted so to hold him but the bruises and the bleeding held her back. 
Her back was cold. 
She'd had her fill of beatings.

As he strode on down the corridor she saw it now for evermore - she'd never even known him and he really was a stranger. And there and then she knew her young life was endangered. And she thought, "If life is a lesson, if life is a lesson, what have I learned? if life is a lesson, what have I learned?".
Oh God! What could she do? She reached into his record bag, fumbled for a cigarette but "shit" he hadn't any left (they'd smoked them all the night before). 
Then, suddenly, her fingers found the handle of a gun...

... meanwhile he pondered the implications of her actions. How could he carry on with her blood on his hands? There and then he decided to forgive her 'indiscretions', many though they were.

When he re-entered the room he was surprised to find her standing but her back was turned against him and he caught her in reflection. Realising her intention much to late to be effective, he raised his hand one final time and she blew him into kingdom come.
And she thought,

As a singer and novelist, I never really paid full attention to having a ‘proper’ career. I’ve always done any McJob going to make the rent, but the eighteen months I spent working in the second largest A&E in the UK has to be the most rewarding, terrifying, exhausting and bonkers work I’ve ever done.
