Poker Flat Recordings welcomes back the ever-prolific Alex Niggemann for another speaker-troubling dispatch. This time out, the Aoen and Soulfooled boss drops a hea- vy–duty release that more than lives up to his usual high standards.
'Materium' is epic in every sense of the word- a sprawling, tough journey into analog tech- no – with a dash of house thrown in. It rips through the speakers – the crisp and aggres- sive production provides the space for grow- ling synths and atmospheric, tense pads. What’s more, the whole track audaciously dissolves into silence mid way through – be- fore exploding back into life via a descending analog synth line.

Starting out in 2001 to tie up some loose ends from our regulars, SPEICHER has since become a guarantee for vanguard dance sounds from all over the planet, allowing KOMPAKT to invite and support electronic artists that comfortably inhabit both the delicate and the more deliberate ends of the electronic music spectrum. For SPEICHER 82, brothers in crime VOIGT & VOIGT deliver two mind-altering doses of psychotropic techno, doing what they do best and squeezing utmost impact out of most minimal arrangements.
Tapping into the more hallucogenic properties of techno. Wolfgang and Reinhard Voigt get back to knead the bodies and minds of the dancing crowd – while being quite upfront about their aesthetic goals. The bold and twitchy A-side SUPERPITCH does exactly that: riding the pitch, and riding it hard. Its incessantly morphing bell sounds are screwing with your sensory inputs, making you an easy prey for the cut's simple and effective beat 'n' bass patterns. However, the secret showstopper of this release might actually be the flipside's aptly named cut SUPERTRIP – a dramatic, string-laden techno journey that starts with a spartan, but heartily grinding bassline and soon evolves into a fully-fledged synth stomper. Für SPEICHER 81 liefert das Brüdergespann VOIGT & VOIGT zwei bewusstseinsverändernde Dosen psychotropen Technos ab, der seinen größtmöglichen Effekt aus minimalsten Arrangements zieht.

Ein genaueres Studium von Beipackzettel und Nebenwirkungen entlarvt die halluzinogenen Eigenschaften des Voigt'schen Klangs, eine regelrechte Knetmaschine für Körper und Geist der tanzenden Meute. Ziemlich eindeutig auch das ästhetische Ziel – die schön patzige A-Seite SUPERPITCH etwa tut genau das, was sie sagt: den Pitch reiten, und zwar hart. Die unermüdlich morphenden Glocken bringen sämtliche Sinneseindrücke durcheinander und machen den Hörer zur einfachen Beute für die simplen und höchst effektiven Beat- und Bassmuster des Tracks. Der geheime Hit jedoch verbirgt sich auf der Rückseite – das sinnig benannte SUPERTRIP, eine dramatische, streicherlastige Technoreise, die mit einer spartanischen, aber herzhaft reibenden Bassline beginnt und sich schnell zum vollausgestatteten Synthie-Stampfer entwickelt. Rising stars Pentatones, justly lauded for their distinctive blend of oblique pop, jazz-inflected electronica and languorous torch songs, receive the full Steve Bug treatment on Poker Flat's latest transmission: a meeting of minds that produces an utterly seductive dancefloor anthem. The original version of 'Karma Game' appears on the Pentatones album "Ouroboros" which will be released early 2015.

Distilling the original's haunting noir pop into a deep techno groove, Bug suspends tinkling chimes and tuned woodblocks around a gritty bass stab. A choir of siren voices follow, hauntingly layered as the tension builds and the riff tightens its grip on synapse and sinew alike. But all this is merely a prelude to the introduction of Delhia de France's vocals: a heartstring-pulling foil to Bug's intense repetitions, creating a heady blend that is deeply involving and instantly memorable.

An instrumental version gives harder-leaning DJs the chance to focus on the hypnotic riff and crisp, percussive touches that comprise the trademark Steve Bug sound, topping off a rich and unforgettable package.

The release kicks off with "Circulate", a piece of epic melodic techno that works in a highly artistic fashion. A skilful composition with lots of musical changes and last but not least a breathtaking arrangement!
Changing perspectives from melodic lush to forceful emotional outbreaks, its constant "up and down" makes this a rollercoaster of a track.
