Safety In Numbers

Noodling on piano and started to sound like Philip Glass (to me) so I just took it there! Updated today to use Spitfire Audio LABS Glass Piano, because why not play it on Mr. Glass' own piano?

Also uses Spitfire Solo Strings and Logic's built-in woodwinds. Synth bass added for a little drive.

Haven't done this in a a while, but gave myself a 1-hour challenge to record a cover tune. This time, I chose Sia's "Breathe Me". I'm no Sia, vocally, so I ended up sounding like Feargal Sharkey and Howard Jones' love child! :) Kept it minimal, musically. The song is a powerful song... needs little embellishments.

I came up with a fairly dark bit of music after something unpleasant happened. Months later, Nathan said, "I have some ideas for this". Possibly the most efficient recording session I've ever had followed. Here is the result. I love where Nathan took this, both melodically and lyrically.

Known as composer/producer for Hungry Lucy, Jess Lamb and That, That Revolves, Warren Harrison had not released solo material since 1997’s Fishtank No.9 release, Itself. On his latest release, Neither Yesterday, nor Tomorrow, Warren forgoes lyrical content and sticks to instrumental pieces that serve as a soundtrack to the transitory state of life. Aside from the final track, Future’s Brighter (feat. Hungry Lucy’s Christa Belle), the compositions began as an escape from an unexpected turn of events and the resulting life transitions over the past 4 years.

In the composer’s own words.

“This collection of music captures a period of time at a stand still, the less constructive version of being present. Unable to go backwards, unwilling to move forwards, stuck in time with nowhere to go. I release these pieces so that I can release myself from the past, grant myself permission to let go, move forward and live, once more.”

Contemplative and emotional, the 14 pieces of music that make up Neither Yesterday, nor Tomorrow score an untold story of sadness, acceptance, transition and ultimate optimism.

Here's Christa and me covering Cyndi Lauper's "All Through the Night" in 2001. This was going to be a Hungry Lucy track, but we ended up using it for the Thorn Apple project. Made in our lil spare bedroom studio in San Leandro, CA.

In the mid 1990s, I was half of a duo named, "...of Skin & Saliva" (aka OSAS). We released one EP and a couple of tracks on some compilations (via label, COP International), but never made it to a full-length release. This was one of the tracks that I always regretted not getting a release. I really liked the slinky vibe of it, while still sticking to the dark, horror movie vibe of the project. A friend of mine asked if I had a copy of it, so I dug out the original DAT and here it be.

The Protector is the first track on my latest album, "Tiny Little Ego System" and features binaural sine waves, Spitfire Labs Frozen Strings, spaced out Wurlitzer electric piano and filtery Moog bass.

The piece began as an imagined story around the original single artwork (https://f4.bcbits.com/img/a2693366804_10.jpg) in which a collection of beings are sent to intervene and protect those that are destined for great things. The single release coincided with a dear friend going out to travel Europe (the person in the cover art). I romantically put this out in the World as protection for her, on her travels.

I make music with Jess Lamb, by myself and with a few other peoples. I used to make music with Hungry Lucy, but that band is no more. I make music because I can't not. It is my life fuel.
