This is a long-awaited project for which the stars finally aligned. A mix of 90-00 Balkan pop-folk nostalgia under a sea of heavy drums of different genres. Some tracks being more sample-heavy than others, they include vocals by Vessela, Ceca, Kali, Sasho Roman, Maria and Reni, some of my favorite artists growing up.

Sticky Dancefloor is a tribute to those moments of euphoria on the dancefloor, at three in the morning, when a new drop takes the already-heated crowd by storm. This first EP from Marseille-based DJ and producer Trae Joly is an uncompromising proposal for the club. The three tracks, all at 140 bpm, are like a DJ set by the co-founder of the Moon Squad collective: unpredictable, eclectic and full of energy. Sticky Dancefloor pays homage to Trae Joly's multiple influences, as he strives for originality while acknowledging his references. With a strong UK inspired base, between Grime and Breakbeat, the EP also draws on references to Dirty South, Gqom and Brazilian Funk. 

Brass Wayne is a reference to producer Lex Luger's bangers, with its menacing synths and forward-thrusting energy. Add to this the repetitive beat of the snare and the percussive melody of the log drum, and you've got the spark to set the dancefloor alight. 

Gabian Riddim functions as a DJ tool that can be played at peaktime, or as an instrumental to accompany an MC during a freestyle session. A big UK-style bass line alternates with breakbeat and tomborzão elements. 

The final track, The Thrill, is a new burst of acceleration, blending Grime and Carioca funk, as if Skepta was taking an expressway to Rio de Janeiro. Rhythmic elements and tense synths add the ingredients needed to make the dancefloor even stickier.

Inspired by Vimbuza, a traditional dance used for spiritual healing by the Tumbuka people of Zambia’s eastern region, "Drums of Affliction" is meant to slowly lull listeners into a trance-like state, thereby escaping from pain, worry, and sorrow.
