Radio 1 supported artists Chris Boyle teams up with Macka and Mark Mackenzie to deliver Debut EP ‘Still Not Discovered Yet’ on Glasgow-based label, Jackie Knows Karate Records

Chris Boyle’s much anticipated debut EP combines the talent across Scotlands dance scene stretching from Inverness with Mark Mackenzie to Edinburgh with Macka and finally Glasgow home of the renowned  Jackie Knows Karate Records as Chris puts his stamp on his sound in a 5 track record packed with summer bangers. Still Not Discovered Yet is an impressive debut for the local Edinburgh producer who is garnering support from the industries best selectors including the likes of Skream and Jackmaster. The record comes as the labels twentieth in a line of impressive club influenced releases. Hands in the air piano lines mix with hypnotic vocals to bring Still Not Discovered Yet to life.

Despite being his debut release Chris Boyle’s productions have already garnered a lot of hype with his tracks being featured on Sarah Story’s Radio 1 show as well as in recent times being supported by Scotland's own Ewan McVicar on his final Radio 1 residency show. 

N.N.Y. is the first example of Chris’ talents as a producer with catchy piano melodies combining with ear pleasing pads and vocal hook asking us to ‘come inside’ which is the perfect intro to the record. N.N.E. captures our attention with an iconic Soulsearchers sample which is later given the remix treatment by the hugely talented Macka. N.S.S is a tribute to the old school with warm string synths, house pianos and breakbeat fills to close out the EP after being given the Mark Mackenzie treatment with a darker dub take on the record.

Local Edinburgh producer Chris Boyle has been grafting and building his reputation around Scotland developing his skills as a producer and DJ by holding down residencies in Edinburghs Cask Smugglers bar as well as being featured in Lineups alongside established DJs Jasper James, Solardo, Mall Grab, Big Miz, Harri and Domenic to name a few. With further tracks signed to Waze & Odyssey’s Street Tracks the future is bright for this producer who is finally ready to be discovered.

It’s one of those tracks that sneaks up on you - a tightly wound groove that unravels just enough to keep you hooked. The bassline hums with understated confidence, the kind of low-end pulse that locks you in without shouting for attention. A whirling synth line sways around it, playful yet precise, twisting like smoke in a dimly lit room. Add in those hip-hop-style scratches — subtle, teasing, perfectly placed - and “Hakuna” starts to blur genre lines with effortless cool.

What truly distinguishes “Hakuna” is its sense of equilibrium - a masterful balance between restraint and release.  Each subtle pause and fleeting break feels intentional, allowing the rhythm to exhale before plunging back into its rolling momentum. Its physicality translates directly to the body - you can almost feel the track’s motion unfold, envisioning a dancer caught mid-groove, loose-limbed and instinctive, lost in the hypnotic pull of the loop.

With “Hakuna,” Joolmad channels the essence of modern Minimal: functional, funky, and full of character. It’s the kind of tune that DJs keep in their record bag waiting for the moment when the floor needs just a little more bounce, a little more soul, a little more attitude.
