The 13th release of katharsis is the EP “Econet” by the artist 3320eco. Diverging a bit from the usual mellow ambient sound direction of the katharsis discography, the Danish debuting artist 3320eco brings a more club-oriented style of experimental electronic music to the label on this release. Throughout the seven tracks, the artist explores an array of classic and modern dance music genres including everything from early trance to bailefunk, trap and jungle.

On “Econet”, 3320eco draws on aesthetics from the 90’s PlayStation console games of his childhood, with the sounds of futuristic machines from high budget sci-fi movies like Transformers and Pacific Rim as the main inspiration for the sound design. Throughout the EP, the listeners are transformed into Gundam-like creatures soaring through the sky on tracks like “INKJET”, or walking through the deserted streets of an uncanny metropolis after an all-encompassing cataclysm on the outro and title track “ECONET”.

The artist states following about the release: “This record is a melting pot containing the over-the-top sound design of modern movies, references to video games and the sounds of dance music. It’s a collage featuring the best parts of subjects I find interesting and fascinating. It’s also a net of references to media I’ve grown up with, an amalgamation of my favourite things and concepts, resulting in music with some kind of cohesive expression.”

Few ask the right questions about Palestine, yet they are answered time and time again. They are shouted and written and drawn and thrown at the world. They are hacked into the digital sphere and sprayed onto every wall. Every single question has already been speculated, thought of and answered. ًWhen your very existence is disputed, negated and denied, you don't learn the answers, you know them. For them, those questions, however complex for the privileged mind, are simple, and the answers could be spoken in a single breath, or they could fill volumes. For them, it's never complicated. And to them, we humbly dedicate this work.

This is an 19-track collaboration between Ma3azef, Heba Kadry, and a group of musicians who carry the fight from the streets to their studios. We offer a sonic tale of occupation, colonial violence and resistance in the face of an attempt to erase a land, a people, a history and a future.

It's not complicated, and never has been.

All proceeds of this compilation will go to Medical Aid for Palestine and Grassroots Al-Quds.

Xiao Quan is a DJ and prolific producer stemming from the clubs of São Paulo, after relocating from the Chinese Shenzen region. A rather mysterious character in the underground community, the artist specializes in exuberant mixtures of techno, grime, tarraxinha, and traditional Chinese elements fueled by a contemporary approach to hybrid club music. His tracks ended up in a whole multitude of labels (Clan Destine, scared2sleep, Clube Tormenta, Sirens, Spite) and EPs, such as the memorable collaborative EP on Unizone with DJ Loser.

Creator and curator of the Paulistano Taipei - ok party, in 2017 Xiao Quan founded the independent creative network and label called Dissolute, releasing works by musicians from all over the world as well as two various artists comps, one of which - as well as the precious Mergulho EP by LAZA - came with a stunning piece of artwork by Gabriel Massan. The Berlin-based digital artist, researching material's plasticity and reflectivity in aseptic, abstract environments, is also responsible for the visual component of Quan's latest effort, Connection EP.

Releasing on May 13th on the Hangzhou-based outcome FunctionLab run by the DJ/producer/vocalist GG Lobster, the EP comes at a point in the label's history in which the focus is steadily being shifted from a local artist base to a wider one, as confirmed by recent outings by the likes of 011668 & S280F, Yikii, and T5UMUT5UMU. Connection EP, in particular, is a melting pot of styles and rhythms split into 7 tracks ranging from 120 to 130 bpm, each shaped up to be the perfect club tool, as versatile as impactful.

The track we premiere today, i.e. the closing piece called Half Moon Kick, is a raw, straight-to-the-point composition employing Latin drum patterns, multiple vocal fillers, a distorted, minimal bassline, all framed by swirling and metallic percussions. Another hit by the iconic swag godfather Xiao Quan, be sure not to miss the whole EP out next week via digital download. Enjoy!
