Durban. A clandestine seaside city with an emerging underground music scene. Its latest discharge? A four-piece hardcore ensemble called Write Off. The band is headlined by female vocalist, Cara Munroe, whose growls and powerful delivery of grunge-like screams spew out lyrics about life, death and that peculiar part in between. Wild punk riffs resembling some iconic 90s bands like Pennywise, Bad Religion and Offspring together with maddening rhythms, tight drumming and menacing vocals result in a sound that resides somewhere between the primal minimalism of garage rock with stabs of melodic hardcore. All this leads to a truly unruly live performance.
