Storm Humbert and fellow Writers of the Future winners created a publishing company called Calendar of Fools.

They compiled a book containing only of rejects, not because they weren't good, but because they weren't right for where they were submitted. So, this project is to give these great stories a second chance!

Ron Hubbard Writers of the Future Contest earning him a trip to Hollywood for a week-long master-class workshop, an awards event and his winning story will be published in the international bestselling anthology, L. In his day job, Lance Robinson is an environmental social scientist who often works closely with mobile peoples. He is a sporadic nomad himself, having lived variously in countries such as Ghana, the Gambia, Colombia, and Kenya. He began writing speculative fiction as a child, and by his early twenties his stories began appearing in small press magazines. In the early 1990s, he even entered the Writers of the Future Contest two or three times. Author, Editor, Game Designer & Developer – Biography

After writing for the early issues of Dragon Magazine in the 1970s Bill Fawcett became one of the founders of and lead designer at Mayfair Games. He has continued his board and electronic game design work including a number of RPGs and PC games. His first books were chosen path novels for TSR in the early days of D&D. His first fantasy series was Lord of Cragsclaw in the 1980s.
Bill’s historical "Mistakes" series includes It Seemed Like a Good Idea, It Looked Good On Paper and You Did What, How To Lose A Battle, How To Lose a War, How To Lose WWII, How To Lose a War at Sea, and How To Lose the American Civil War.  Among his non-fiction books are Oval Office Oddities, 100 Mistakes that Changed History, 100 Leadership Mistakes that Changed History and 101 Stumbles in the March of History.
As an author Bill has written or co-authored over a dozen fiction books plus close to fifty articles and short stories. Recently, however, when he returned home to Canada, he decided it was also time to come back home to writing. Since then, his stories have often explored how our relationship with the natural world is intertwined with our spiritual journeys—as individuals, as communities, and as a collective humanity. Lance is also an avid astronomy and space-travel nut, and he found the germ of his story “Five Days Until Sunset” at the intersection of pondering the spiritual search that never ends and wondering what life might be like on a tidally locked, “eyeball” planet. The story also asks what it means to live in harmony with a world that is ready to kill you, and what it means to have faith in the face of inconvenient truths.

Stephen Kotowych was a writer winner for Writers of the Future Volume 23 in 2007.

He recently edited and published “The Year’s Best Canadian Fantasy and Science Fiction Volume 1” anthology. It comprises 37 stories and poems and is 100% Canadian.

Rhode Island School of Design student Carina Zhang is a winner in the L. Ron Hubbard Illustrators of the Future Contest earning them a trip to Hollywood for a week-long master-class workshop, an awards event and their winning art will be published in the international bestselling anthology, L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future Volume 40.  The awards event will be April 25th at the Taglyan Complex in Hollywood, California.

Carina (Jiayun) Zhang is a US-based Chinese artist studying at the Rhode Island School of Design. Their expertise lies in interdisciplinary creative health works, encompassing projects for educational institutions, hospitals, galleries, and publications. Carina strives to improve cultural humility in illustrations, explore the therapeutic aspect of the art-making process in clinical use, and use storytelling to bring joy to the world. Storm Humbert is a science fiction and fantasy writer from a small town called Fayette (literally a one stoplight town) in northwest Ohio near the Michigan border. He did his undergraduate studies at The Ohio State University, where he earned a degree in English literature with minors in creative writing and theater. For two years after he finished his bachelor's degree, Storm worked odd jobs ranging from newspaper editing to creating animated digital advertisements (and basically anything in between).

Storm later earned an MFA from Temple University in Philadelphia, where he had the opportunity to study under Samuel R. Delany, Don Lee, and other great instructors. He has taught a variety of writing classes at Temple University and Sienna Heights University in Adrian, Michigan. He currently lives in Michigan with his wife, Casey, cats: Chicken Nugget (Nugget for short) and Honey Mustard, and is a professional legal writer, while he continues his own writing. Chris Arias of Cartago, Costa Rica is a winner in the L. Chris created illustrations for the story, "The Fall of Crodenra M" by T.J. Knight--a Writers of the Future winner.  The story and illustration along with the other writers' and illustrators' stories and art is published in the international bestselling anthology, L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future Volume 39 which was officially released on May 16th 2023. 

 

Chris Arias was born in 1997 in Cartago, Costa Rica, in a small farming town on the slopes of an extinct volcano. Chris has been passionate about art ever since he could hold a pencil in his right hand. He was inspired by the fantastic stories about goblins, witches, knights, and dragons that his mother told him during their long walks through the local mountains and forests.

John Brown was a winner published in Writers of the Future Volume 13 with his story “The Scent of Desire” under his penname Bo Griffin. I met up with him again last year at LTUE and when I saw he would be back, I asked that he send me a book to read so I could have him on as a guest.

His bio says he writes action-packed thrillers and epic fantasies with characters you want to cheer for. After interviewing him, I discovered it is Magic Realism that he writes.

He currently lives with his wife and four daughters in the hinterlands of Utah where one encounters much fresh air, many good-hearted ranchers, and the occasional wolf.
