The Wu-Tang saga continues with ‘Black Samson, the Bastard Swordsman’: the new album from Mathematics, the crew’s DJ, with appearances from all nine Wu-Tang Clan emcees. In this exclusive commentary, Mathematics breaks down tracks from the album; from those co-produced by RZA (“Mandingo,” “Roar of the Lion”), to guest appearances from hip-hop OG Kool G Rap and next-generation inheritor Benny the Butcher. Continuing the thematic influence of Eastern martial arts on the Wu-Tang sound, Mathematics named the track “Executioners from Shaolin” after one of his favorite movies. “You knew it was about to be drama,” Mathematics says, about the soundtracks to those classic films.
