In 1990, Frankie Bones opened “Groove Records,” a techno outpost deep in Brooklyn. Adam X soon became a co-owner and by 1995 the shop was relocated to Manhattan, with Heather Heart rounding out the trio. The new shop was called “Sonic Groove” and it quickly became ground zero for techno in New York City. There was nothing like it in the area at the time or, arguably, anywhere in America.

Sonic Groove was 110% dedicated to techno, a genre that was just past its infancy and exploding worldwide. A community emerged around the shop and thus the label was spawned.

Adam X had an agenda from the very beginning as label curator (and eventually sole owner): to release some of the most forward thinking underground techno music around. Realizing that goal was no easy feat, considering the volume of records being released at the time in a fast-paced and growing scene.

Fast-forward 25 years. Adam X and Sonic Groove are still at the forefront of modern underground techno, sticking to the same ethos and pushing the envelope further into the future. The faces and sounds may have changed, but the label has kept true to the vision. In an era now dominated by image, style, and trivial content, Sonic Groove continues its mission of putting the music first and foremost.

Now in celebration of 25 years, Sonic Groove releases a muscular 12 song compilation of  previously unreleased music comprised from the label's current artist roster.  A testament to techno's ever evolving sound and serves as a modern document showcasing the path Sonic Groove has taken and where it has led to, proving that as time passes, there is still room for creativity and innovation in the genre as demonstrated throughout these 12 tracks.

For our first podcast we have our resident Barnjem who has been very much influenced by electronic music for the past few years. Since moving to the UK he has delved into the underground scene of electronic music driving him to learn about the techno side of it.

In recent years he has desired to become a Techno DJ. Being surrounded and influenced by other DJs on the scene, learning as much as he can and finally settling his style between dark and trippy sounds including some breakbeats.

Seismic Activity is a techno DJ/Producer based in London originally from Scotland, focusing on the harder, darker side of techno.

Gary was playing in the trance scene in Edinburgh for a good 5 years but gave it up for the love of techno and a move to London. As a resident for @minimalforce he has been gracing the city with his hard energetic sets for a few years now!

Just released on @hhrlondon, he has been working hard on production with more releases to come and is definitely one to watch.

We are facing a new and worldwide situation, very complex for all of us and for all the artists, clubs and organizers.

Covid 19 has forced us to social distance but we will keep fighting, trying to transform all this suffering into an opportunity for reflecting on our priorities, to create and to keep spreading art. We will keep loving and supporting each other because our community is based on true values such as love and sharing.

Vittorio Di Mango is an Italian DJ/producer from the class of 97, born in Trani, a small city in the south of Italy. 

Vittorio's first approach to electronic music was in 2012 when he played in little clubs in his city and those nearby. In 2014 he became interested in Techno music by taking part as a resident DJ in a local organization called "White XXX", which later led him to exhibit with such important artists including Dax J, Phase Fatale and Samuel Kerridge. His musical sets are characterized by a weaving of Techno with that of sounds such as acid, industrial and ebm. In September 2016 releases his first Ep ‘’Wrong definition’’ on Amok Tapes. In January 2017 came out his first remix ‘’Prepare to die’’ on NEN Records. On april 7 was inaugurated ‘’Epilessia’’ his first track on vinyl with I Hate Models on Khemia records.
In 2017 part of SENSUM EVENTS as resident DjIn 2018 he became part of WAYS and in 2018 he became part of WAYS.

Her love of underground techno and clubbing is what drives her to be involved in the music scene and has resulted in collaborating with local DJs, labels and Resident Advisor.

Emma Yasumi's DJ sets reflects her well-travelled and random life. Having lived in Los Angeles, New York, New Jersey and London, her style is influenced by the hip hop, dancehall, ghetto house/juke and industrial rock scenes of the various cities she has called home.

In a typical set, you will find Emma traversing the House and Techno spectrum, juxtaposing various textures, melodies and moods to create a dynamic musical journey. A classically trained violinist, dancer and self described club kid, Emma Yasumi has only one requirement of her sets - that they keep the floor moving.

Jamaica Suk - Serenity In Chaos [ARCH001 | Premiere]

Kubrik is a London-based DJ and founder of Somnus. His passion for electronic music began in 2015 over the Turin underground clubs and festivals. Moved to the UK in 2016, Kubrik started running events with Somnus in 2019 and then became one of its residents in 2020. Shortly after, he joined the AAJA Radio team as biz developer and resident DJ.
In his sets Kubrik expresses dark and deep sounds, combining intense breaks with powerful techno and raw bangers.
