Produced by Music Theatre Projects Ltd as a satellite event of the Gunning Arts Festival 2021. Recorded at The Picture House Gallery, Gunning.

Millicent Armstrong was a WW1 nurse veteran of the Western Front, a writer and playwright, a farmer at Gunning, and, at one stage, a cafe owner in Goulburn. A soldier settler and awarded the Croix de Guerre for bravery in France, her name may not be well known to you, but this project is designed to address that situation. Who doesn't enjoy a great story, expertly crafted? And why shouldn't we know more about our cultural legacy, especially from those who built lives in regional Australia? THE Gentleman's Companion Overture

Dianna Nixon (moi) plans to set up a podcast called Talkin' Out Yer Arts. (Lots more to do yet, need to do some training with Jen Seyderhelm, then write & perform a jingle, record an intro, ya da ya da.)

To do that means interviewing cool and interesting people who work professionally in the performing arts, about 7 or 8 initially, and then the actual podcast will be launched. 

So this is my first interview, raw and uncut. Will be tightened up before putting onto the podcast. But here it is ums and all.

WARNING - I'm very vocally muffled due to wearing a mask so as not to inadvertently infect the interview subject and thusly bring his current show at The Street Theatre "Art" to a grinding halt. 

My technical prowess is very basic, but Stephen Lindsay (Old Binda Road Studios, Crookwell) came to the rescue and cleaned up my very rough recording as much as poss. 

Big thanks to Shane Dundas for patiently waiting while I fiddled nervously with my sound gear. But I really enjoyed chatting to him in Street 3, the rehearsal room at The Street Theatre.

Btw, we discovered a shared influence in early experiences of artists such as Steven Berkoff - who, incidentally, I interviewed at his East End home when I was on my Churchill Fellowship in 2013 (but that's a whole other story).
