This week's show is a Valentine addressed to Appalachia. We'll hear from writers who love it here and even feel drawn to these mountains. We’ll talk with Neil Gaiman, who says some of his stories were inspired by Appalachian Folktales. And Ann Pancake, who says while growing up in West Virginia she always wanted to get as far away from Appalachia as she could. But when she did leave, her feelings for the mountains changed.

Kristina "Breezie" Weaver grew up in southern West Virginia with a loving family and father who struggled with addiction. Breezie says that her family was open about her father’s struggles and that’s why she’s able to talk about it openly. David Siers died in June of 2015 of a heroin overdose. Breezie hopes that by sharing her story and the story of her relationship with her father, it might help someone else.
