As winter takes its last breath in Montreal, we revisit the latest Quebecois artist to grace XYZ - Monarke. The Edge of Reality EP launched earlier this year to a hearty reception, and we follow it up with a set of remixes brimming with innovative energy.

Jessica Zese’s vocal performance on Otherside forms the backbone of the project, offering the centerpiece that sews the thread between these four tracks. Her balance of emotive power and soft prose make for memorable dancefloor moments and crucial character for the remixing artists. 

Russia’s Nadya has crafted a sturdy brand of techo-leaning sounds through projects with Natura Viva and Stil Vor Talent, and she kicks things right into gear with her take on Otherside. A revolving bassline and tripped out vocal stabs ebb and flow, with fluttering melodics filling the high end. Dancefloor bliss!

'With measured urgency, Praise builds from a single note and a careful kick, growing to cumulonimbus heights. Shreds of prophe2c lyrics echo and flash, stoking an2cipa2on, breaking into dazzled trance-like moments. A track like a long, soaring flight, it is focused and aFen2ve, thick with controlled electricity. Semara’s voice is a counterpoint of calm strength.

Shards of broken glass seem to flicker over the 2ght wobble of this introspec2ve track. Synths burn hard as truth through the depths, with vocals like a sour peach on the tongue: fuzzed yet bright, a searing edge hazed in sweetness. Ideal is a tough realiza2on skewered into a techno stride.

Agatha Pher recasts Praise with a punchy beat, drawing wild forms from the spare density of the original. Melodies open up like a concer2na, and 2ghtly bent synths add swerving embellishments to Semara’s arrangement. This angular remix keeps the mood but warps the shape, the lyrics dis2lled, spun with snares and a deeper house thump.
D-Nox & Beckers deliver a melodic, clubbier take on Ideal. This version leans into the focused pump of the drum, its arpeggios bubbling from the outset, sparingly punctuated with vocals. With a rich buildup of claps and jangles, bleeps and bloops, this dancefloor-shaped remix conjures crowds and distorted bright lights.'

Stirring within the depths of Pigalle, a battery of chords punctuate the heated techno ambience while a dirty low end growls under a highly charged bed of thick percussion. Pushing onward and upward Pigalle drives a sinister path through a field of late night dancefloor prowess, then creates a scene turning the heat up to a boil and letting loose when the time is right. Next the duo calls on the talented Turkish producer Sezer Uysal for another round with Dominate. Fitting is the title as the track unfurls heaps of energy with its powerful bassline and haunting vocal ambience. The buildup of its rhythmic synths as they dart between the beats and squawk along hard edge of the bassline is irresistible, creating a fever of motion and a satisfying portion of sinister vibes. So when night is young and when were away, Pigalle will come to play. By now were sure it safe to say something wicked comes this way.

PREMIERE: Several Definitions - Perceptions (Original Mix) [Récits de Mars]

Exclusive Solstice feat. Lea Luxanima 'Fall (Ivory Mantra Rework)'

Music is poetry in notes and Berlin based label Poesie Musik releases one of these musical pieces that is destined to leave a lasting impression on the dance floors. Parisian artist Solstice is responsible for the aforementioned release that simply goes by the name of 'Yelrih One' and includes aside from the original version of 'Fall' three remixes from Juan, Anton Dhouran and Italian wonderboy Ivory. The latter turns the original into an ultimate dance floor weapon by poetically working the haunting vocals into synth-sequences that keep grooving over a lush bass line and exhibit minimal changes throughout the track so that the final result is an on-going, rich in soundscapes and complex take representing the beauty of club music. 

Solstice's EP 'Yelrih One' will be released on Poesie Musik March 8th, 2019.
