As the driving force behind Strange Town Recordings, Indigenous artist Bryan Wolf Ear is a champion of the underground. Under his guidance, the label is responsible for introducing some of the brightest up and coming names in progressive house music. For over 20 years, Bryan has honed his craft as a DJ, sharing the stage with artists, Booka Shade, Miss Melera, Pole Folder and Isolée. In addition the Canadian born and Montréal native holds a residency at the world-renowned Le Salon Daomé and hosts a radio-show ‘Strange Town Frequencies’ broadcasted monthly on Proton Radio.

Ruhrpott grownup electronic musician and sound-designer, Torsten grew his portfolio with plenty outings on labels such as Platipus, Mango Alley, PHW Elements, Sudbeat, Afterglow. Delivered professional sound-design for big names as Native Instruments, Waves and Zenhiser. Even more and over a long time he produced tons of remixes, and more to come.

Indian duo faintface make a highly anticipated return to SOL. The ambient pair left a lasting impression with their 'In Threes' EP in September of 2021. February 4th sees the pair return to the label with a lush follow-up in two track release 'Dreamers/Houseplants'.

The new EP is yet another stellar exhibition of their signature sound, which blends the best of lo-fi, ambient and modern classical.

'Dreamers' is a soft, meditative cut that fuses ultra-light pads and intricate melodic touches in a blissful sonic experience.

'Houseplants' is a similarly delicate creation, although it is defined by a contrast at its core. Idyllic bells, and dulcet melodic tones are met with tension in the air, making for a dynamic, introspective experience.

SOL Sessions 012 - Margee

SOL Sessions welcomes none other than Erdi Irmak on the latest edition of the mix series. The sublime Turkish producer is fresh from his debut on SOL with the thrilling ‘Outcast' EP. Irmak's prowess as a master of melodies and groove is well known with numerous appearances on the likes of Tale & Tone, Hoomidaas, XYZ and Where The Heart is.

The ‘Outcast' EP sees the Istanbul native delve deeper into the ambient world. The title track is a richly textured and atmospheric cut. Distant strings and soft synth-work set the scene almost immediately as a hypnotic melodic line rides front and centre. Delicate, emotive keys coat the surface, elevating the track into an irresistibly entrancing experience.

‘Swamp City' takes a darker turn. It conjures up a thrilling atmosphere with wavering synth-work and menacing arpeggiators. The harrowing feel is contrasted impeccably by a light melody that emergences once more with a hypnotic repetition.

When sharing what I do its nice to know it finds its place into peoples lives and evokes something in you, this continually feeds back into what I am doing, just like I feel the need to create I appreciate that some of you also feel the need to voice and share what you think or feel in the comments or messages. For some more clarity, this is a concept live performance recording, the approach is focused on it as a whole and not individual tracks or parts. All the music has been created and performed to share one long evolving idea drawn from a culmination of moods, experiences. Veronika Fleyta - Deeper Sounds - British Airways Inflight Radio - September 2019

John Evexc was born in Germany in 1981. Towards his late childhood he was an enthusiastic listener of electronic music. His passion for playing electronic music began in 2001. In 2015 he founded his project Sonne, Strand und Meer to give more attention to the music he loves and lives. This channel has provided a platform for numerous up and coming artists to showcase their talent.

Snyze was born in Germany. As an enthusiastic listener of electronic music, she was drawn to the dance floors of clubs and festivals, and she quickly developed a passion for playing music herself. From House to Deep House up to melodic Techno, she creates varied and fluent sets which invite you to dance. In 2019 she joined the podcast channel Sonne, Strand und Meer. 

Now, Evexc and Snyze work together on their project and on the decks.

We at Institution have been following both Evexc and Snyze, and listen regularly to their stellar underground Sonne Strand und Meer podcast. As you are about to find out, this duo is super talented; we love this mix!

Born and raised in Hamburg, Germany but originally connected to the roots of the beautiful island of Mauritius. @mel-bell-1 began her musical journey already as a child. Since early childhood she developed her passion for music. She played on various instruments to create her own melodies and thus set the course for the path to electronic music. She always follows herself and designs excellent music that are regularly released on well-known international labels. She completed numerous projects, including classical recordings. Her strengths lie in the development of melodies, and creating that special groove. For her, music is a deep feeling that is marked by freedom and self determination. It is the happiness of a soul to be able to decide this moment by yourself.
