“Kiki Is Gone for a While” is a poignant and introspective song that explores the struggle of a transgender woman torn between her true self and the image she presents to the world. The lyrics capture the emotional weight of hiding one’s identity, with the recurring line “Hiding my pride again” symbolizing the internal battle between self-acceptance and fear of judgment. The song also touches on themes of escapism, as seen in references to wine as a temporary refuge. With a deeply personal yet universally relatable message, the track builds toward a powerful question: “For this time, should I try?”—leaving listeners with a sense of longing, hope, and the courage to embrace authenticity.

In 2006 we Fays went on tour in Europe and found ourselves hanging out with Yuppie Flu who graciously welcomed us into their world. Yuppie Flu’s popularity in Italy was evident (with their pictures plastered on the front covers of music magazines at seemingly every turn). Yuppie Flu had released the album "Toast Masters” the year prior, and the single "Our Nature" was a particularly beloved track that ended up defining a distinct and memorable stretch of time for us. 20 years later, we decided to pay tribute to the song (and the band) by releasing this cover, and latching to the title to release this cover on Earth Day and collect some money for The Nature Conservancy.

"Bleak Weekends" is the first glimpse of Echopark’s third studio album, "Songs For Jane", arriving June 6 via the independent label We Were Never Being Boring https://wwnbb.bandcamp.com. 

"Come to me, we could be friends / In the darkest nights, in the sunday mornings / And in the bleak weekends."
With these words — both warmly inviting and strikingly disenchanted — "Bleak Weekends" marks the long-awaited return of Echopark, the Italian-born, London-based artist known for his emotive songwriting and sonic experimentation.
It’s his first release since 2017’s "Ties", and in many ways, it picks up right where that album left off. Where "Ties" explored the tension between intimacy and isolation, "Bleak Weekends" delves deeper into themes of loss, resignation, and the emotional push-pull at the heart of human connection.
“Bleak Weekends offers a kind of shadowy companionship,” says Echopark. “It’s built on shared pain and a certain idea of survival. The song reflects the realization that hope and effort don’t always save us—sometimes, the most we can do is reach out to each other, endure, and carry our sadness together.”
Musically, Echopark’s sound has grown more layered and expressive, reflecting years of quiet evolution. There are echoes of TV On The Radio and Japanese Breakfast in the way guitars weave with synth textures, while his experimental pop instincts bring to mind late-era Blur, the unpredictability of Dean Blunt, and the melodic craftsmanship of Broken Bells. The result is a tense, immersive, and emotionally charged sound—one that seeks transcendence through cathartic melodies and explosive rhythms.

Echopark - Bleak Weekends

«Are we hitching a ride / On this life’s passenger side?»  is the uneasy focal query centering The Wends’ new rousing single, Passenger Side. A song that despite the existential doubts, anxieties and questions, doesn’t shy away from launching towards what might be unrealistic: «We will meet across / It seems impossible, so what?».
Passenger Side is one of the three previously unreleased songs part of the compilation The Singles 2020-2025, out on CD via Subjangle Records in collaboration with We Were Never Being Boring Collective; a delightful summary of the bands’ first five years on the scene.
With this new song, the Turin, Italy based band continues in their narrative of emotional balancing between poetry and existential uncertainty, exploring fundamental topics with vulnerability and the need for answers: “Is it all worth keeping? Is this all worthwhile?”.
Passenger Side is a guitar dominated, passionate indie-rock song as The Wends got us used to, with hints of R.E.M., the Replacements, and the Lemonheads, but this time there’s a bitterer and angrier delivery, as if we gazed outside our car window while our questions remain unanswered.


The Singles 2020-2025 runs through the evolution of The Wends, from post-punk to a US influenced jangle pop from the ‘80. The compilation serves as a tribute to the band’s history, as well as a new beginning with the introduction of a new drummer.
