The 16th release of katharsis is the EP “Internal Presence” by the label founder, jjjacob. This EP is the follow-up and counterpart to his earlier release on the label “Journey Before Destination” which came out half a year before on March 8th. On this release, jjjacob returns to his usual uncompromising electronic sound after exploring more minimalistic and acoustic facets of his musical expression on the preceding EP. By blending uncanny choirs and obscure samples with peculiar synths and IDM-inspired drums, jjjacob’s melodic universe brings the listener on a sonic adventure into a fantasy-infused world.

While “Journey Before Destination” sought to explore the heroic struggles of a poignant pilgrimager, “Internal Presence” examines the magical sensations and daunting emotions of otherworldly transformations. Starting from the grandiose trance-infused intro anthem “Shapeshifter”, the EP quickly develops into the curious yet introverted exploration of an exquisite domain on “Realm of Essence”. Following this, immense feelings and existential contemplations are presented through ethereal harps and hymns of lost spirits on “Lethal Sentiment”, before angelic creatures serenade about the destination of our eternal journey on the closing track “Terminal Bliss”.

DISPLAY’s latest split tape features two tracks by the artist innerinnerlife: one solo piece and one collaboration with the label’s founder, Kid Smpl.

The release begins with the minimal and earnest solo piece “The Green Ray.” Finding inspiration in film, the artist melds together warm floating pads, pointillist synths and solemn vocal edits as the track twist through three cinematic movements. All of this culminates in a heartfelt and emotional sound reminiscent of the artist’s previous work.

On the B-Side this sound begins to deconstruct itself with the collaborative track “Our Heart Knows A Way Out.” Here we find the collaborators Kid Smpl & innerinnerlife taking a similar sonic palette to “The Green Ray” and filtering it down to a delicate, spacious piece. Joyous strumming guitars and tranced-out synths are stretched out to meet the stillness of reverb-drench pianos and clipped-out vocal runs, with both of the artists’ sounds finding home in the stillness.
