glad this one is finally getting a release !!

Despite taking its name from a rather ludicrous imagined instrument, its been apparent from day dot that Lobster Theremin very much mean business. Since starting in the latter half of 2013 with Palms Trax's instantly beloved 'Equation' EP, Jimmy Asquith's label has churned out wax at a rate of knots. Whilst each release occupies its own stylistic niche, a 'Lobster Theremin sound' has gradually crystalised over time - with the label now recognised for its dusty interpolations of classic Midwestern American House and Techno.

Their latest release continues down this path, with Asquith once again unearthing a gem of an artist in the shape of London based newcomer, Ozel AB. His four track 'Crimes' EP starts with 'Sidestep To Your Left', a smokey cut that sultrily emerges from the mid-winter gloom. The press materials liken it to a, 'forum weirdo's reinterpretation of Moodymann's 'J.A.N' - which isn't far off the mark at all, given its ever so slightly off kilter Motor City throb. There's a slight distance about everything here too - from the detached insouciance of the sampled vocal, to the insistent yet softly lashing chords. With the EP's other three tracks continuing down the opaque trail blazed by the likes of Actress and his Werkdiscs cohorts, 'Crimes' is a collection that's deep, dark and imperfectly formed.

First Listen: Ozel AB - 'Sidestep To Your Left' (Lobster Theremin)

The Lobster Theremin white label debuts yet another young producer in the shape of the Leeds-based Hedge Maze. With a tightly crafted, hazy, blissed-out house sound these three tracks have been culled from the muggy undergrowth of his northern harddrive.

Untitled is a chattering roller, smothered with a throbbing, wavy bassline and ending in a fuzzy, chord-soaked crescendo, while the slow, drudging rhythms of Dysania give a heavy nod to some of Lowtec's down tempo numbers for the label.

The release is rounded out with the glistening, black-sun shower of (slow). All delay-drenched crystal stabs and oscillating soundscapes. A floating, ethereal trip into the afterlife.

"00:AM started simply. A small party in Montreal with close friends soundtracked by the DJs and producers inspiring us abroad. Over the last two years, we’ve been lucky enough to host some of our musical heroes while also meeting and collaborating with many of the great people who make our city’s scene everything it is. 00:AM’s stayed small, but we’ve met a lot of friends along the way. And now, keeping with the ethos of the party, we’re excited to bring them together and begin sharing some of the incredible music they're making on wax.

00AM001 is the first in a series of Various Artists 12”s in which we’ll aim to capture the spirit of the 00:AM dance floor with music we’ve received and road tested across our beloved city’s bars, clubs, & half-cocked afterparties. The first release brings together local neighbourhood staples and roommates Priori and Adam Feingold alongside our good Australian pal Mike Midnight and LA’s very own AshTreJinkins. The number seemed to follow him everywhere he went, from bus stops to street signs, from doors to in the supermarket. It was an ominous presence which hung heavy on his shoulders. Why it was three he did not know, what it meant he knew neither. One day perhaps he might stumble into some sort of gracious acceptance of the condition the number played upon his life but for now the only logical response appeared to involve rebellion and denial. An internal fight with no way out. 

Chaotic Reality is Scottish producer set to self release his debut, an EP which blurs the lines between dubbed out house, techno and electronica. It's an inspired cut.

PREMIERE: Chaotic Reality - Three [CHREAL]

Following up Lou Karsh’s excellent “Ataraxia” EP we’re hitting up the Australian talent once again. This time it’s the turn of Sydney native E Davd. Manu originally got in touch with a bunch of demos just short of two years ago in the spring of 2016, so for once it’s really no exaggeration to say that this has been a “long time in the works”. Only one track from that initial offering made the release and it’s been a real pleasure witnessing Manu’s creative evolution in that time, not to mention the success of his debut EP on Manchester based label, Natural Sciences.

The self-styled Cosmic Healer turns in an EP of similar flavor to his first effort; ice cold pads, hypnotic 303 basslines and liberal use of that 707 rim shot combine to create a record shot through with reflection and melancholy. Tales of lost love and memories past course through every track. Manu sums up the inspiration behind the EP as follows:

“The meaning behind the name of the record is that it's a view of what was once my universe - now it's far away and in the past, I see it in my memory. Like a star that's millions of light years away - there's warmth and a light that still projects from it. Also, a star has a life span from birth to death - they're taken for granted to be eternal objects but they have a beginning and an end just like everything else. The light we see from a star is billions of years old - in reality the star might have died, but we still see its light, and to us this is reality. 

It's also a sneaky reference to a cheesy crowded house song lol.”

Chicago legend Jamal Moss, also commonly known as Hieroglyphic Being, supplies a diverse collection of electronic excursions on his 'R-Spirits Will Not Be Broken' EP via Seth Troxler and The Martinez Brothers’ Tuskegee Music imprint, including the acid-tinged deep house cut 'Salvation Is The Cure'.

Having been strongly influenced by witnessing Ron Hardy play at the iconic Chicago venue Muzic Box, Jamal's been known to showcase a raw and unapologetic essence to his distinctly original material. His latest outing sees him break the mold of dance music once again, with four tracks that reveal his innovative approach to music production.
