“krypt. vol2 is the second instalment of my ‘krypt’ EP series. It’s a mixtape-like EP, named after a ‘crypt’ (underground vault holding the remains of a person); in this case it’s my musical vault with several new + old tracks I’ve had in my unreleased catalogue. It touches various genres like the previous one, from garage stuff to a bit faster house, to slowed down nu-disco. I rarely get inspired by current music, most of the time I’m listening to records at least 15-20 years old but wondering how they would sound if they were made today.

The EP also features two songs (Never Enough, L.U.V.) with my own lead vocals, which a first for my releases thus far. I really enjoy making longer music projects which is why I’ve always gravitated towards LPs and albums, as a producer and a listener. It allows you to dive in a bit deeper in the mind of the creator and see where their emotions lie across a longer body of work. A single often doesn’t have enough power to allow you to see behind the curtain.”

“Hey SWEETFACE… is he dead?” The words were harsh and guttural, delivered through a pair of vocal cords clearly roughened beyond their age. “Nah, he’s still breathin’ “ came the reply, emitted through a face that brought a sense of irony to it’s moniker. The gravelly voice spoke again, thumbing through a wallet in his hands with a set of thick, meaty fingers. “Boss said we don’t get paid if he’s dead. I want to get paid. I got, eh, what’s the word… vices? Yeah, vices. I got vices that need fulfillin’, ya know?” “Ah, you got vices? ‘Course you got vices you dunce, ain’t no one sound like you ‘less they got vices. Now, quit complainin’ and help me put this perp in the trunk.”

The body landed with a dull thud on the metal interior of the trunk, and a small groan came forth from its nameless owner. Looking down into the trunk, SWEETFACE loaded a single round into his handgun’s magazine. “Cover your ears Pizzaface, I got vices too.” was the single command that followed. With nonchalant aplomb, SWEETFACE fired a blank mere inches from the captive’s head, awakening him with a start before slamming the trunk closed and plunging him into disoriented darkness. “You didn’t give me enough damn time, SWEETFACE!”, came the protest from his partner. Already walking towards the passenger side door of the vehicle, SWEETFACE flipped a set of keys over his shoulder at his bumbling partner. “Let’s go,” he said curtly, “and Pizzaface… make sure to shake the perp up a bit back there. Keep him scared. Hell, drive like you just had one of those “vices” of yours.”

A crypt, defined, is an underground vault holding the remains of a person – so I wanted to title this series of EPs as krypt’s, given that they’re sort of my vault of tracks I’ve played out at shows, etc. The genres vary from garage to house, to a bit of experimentation with new genres and breaks. A volume 2 will be released in the fall as well.”

I finished this mixtape / EP, whatever it is, a few months ago. It’s a combination of demos I was working on that I loved playing out at shows the last year or so. Some old, some new - it’s a mix of all of the genres and styles that I’m feeling at the moment. Also, I really wanted to include interludes because I was always fascinated with them as a kid listening to CDs. vol2 in a few months !

"How Long Have You Been Away?’ is the first single off of krypt. vol2, following the 1st volume that released in August 2020. The last few months, I’ve rediscovered my love for french-house and disco-house from the early 2000s. This one is a bit more melancholic than most of my music; it talks about missing someone or something. In my case specifically, it was about the times of innocence that I miss from my late childhood / early adulthood. I think in this moment, we’re all missing the times we had before all this nonsense started. HLHYBA is imo, an ode to good times & memories."

kryptogram is a Chicago based producer & DJ.
Emigrating to the US from war-torn Serbia in the early 2000s, kryptogram (born Igor Loncar) grew up in a musically fruitful household. Obsessed with recreating sounds he heard on Daft Punk’s ‘Discovery’, he dove into electronic production at 15, discovering his love for house music. Drawing influences from Chicago house, 90s UK garage, and early-2000s disco-house, he has developed his artistic sound as an intricate combination of inescapable house grooves, crisp production, and soothing melodies.
