Have been a huge fan of Rocky & Diesel since stumbling across them aged 18 firing out what was to be a sound that would shape my musical trajectory thereon. Tracks dropped that night were Carl Craigs paperclip people nestling amongst NY gay disco anthem Born this way by Carl Bean and deep house tinged with mood and soul in the main room of Cream Liverpool.  

As a youthful adolescent we’d try get into cream but struggled week on week until a chance encounter one Saturday and opportunity seized when the promoter Darren Hughes popped into JD sports where I had a Saturday job. 

What followed was an exchange of Green Adidas Marathon,  a giving from John and David aka JD sports for services to house music. The favour was returned with a contact number scribbled on some paper and the words just call this when you're coming down to Cream and you and a mate can go on the guestlist.. whenever.

That was August 1994…27 plus years ago.  Its such an honour to have Rocky aka Darren Rock, one half of that duo and a third of the global reaching X-Press II  to close out the show with an hour of signature dance-floor arsenal.

Our guests on Line Noise this week are the classic English house duo X-Press 2, who have just released their fifth album, Thee. We talked about New York house, keeping things simple, David Byrne and Kurt Wagner and the slightly disappointing joy of getting to number two in the UK charts.

I'm very honoured to bring you a recording of a live Nicky Holloway set way back from '88, which I believe is from a night called 'Devil May trip'.
The night was a collaboration between Nicky's 'Trip' night which he ran at The Astoria, and group of guy's who ran some amazing parties around the Uxbridge/Bucks area west of London around that time and before with their nights called 'Devil May Care'.

The tape is a real insight to the summer of '88, and personally my mind was officially blown the first night I walked into Trip at the Astoria, and was officially obsessed from there on in (like so many others).

This tape was kindly passed on to me for uploading by George Georgiou as   featured recently on his Instagram page. 
Originally recorded by Nicky H for George back in '88 following persistent nagging by George back at the time, and recently rediscovered amongst a crate of cassette tapes. 
'A reminder of some blinders' was one of Nicky's fave strap lines for his flyers, as he used to tell George. 

George has designed artworks for so many legendary clubs/nights which include Trip, Sin, Shoom, Special Branch, The Milk Bar, RAW & Velvet Underground to name just a few! 
As Dave Dorrell once said..."George Georgiou's unmistakable art - bold, minimal, primary - splashes electrically through London's nightlife story".

*Please note at 46.34 mins the A-side finishes, & B-side begins...hence the gap.

On a personal note, I would like to thank George for trusting me with this tape. I was a member at Trip, Sin & went to many a Nicky Holloway party way back before the acid house explosion hit these shores, with his 'Doo's' nights' and numerous times seeing him play at Eddie Gordon's Slammer party's in an old rough biker pub (Red Lion), playing alongside Pete Tong, Dave Dorrell & Giles Peterson (downstairs) before they hit the big time, all in a run down industrial part of North Kent circa mid 80's...happy sweaty days.

Growing up in New York, he's since remained in the city ushering in a new wave of techno for the NY scene. While his name might not be commonly known in Europe, you'll likely know him as a US headliner who holds a firm place on line-ups with Carl Cox, Carlo Lio, Victor Calderone, Chris Liebing, Kenny Glasgow and Joseph Capriati, among more.

Elsewhere, he's just been announced as featuring on Ben Sims' forthcoming techno compilation 'Tribology.'
