The tough breakbeats, slippery machine funk and fizzier end of the acid spectrum have always been a predominant driving force throughout most of Roy’s impressive output to date but on his new Fenix Break slab for Acid Waxa, Nottingham’s finest lays the mid-tempo gurner-churners on thick with a trowel and goes in deep on a wild, cement mixer bop.

Employing the use of an old Akai sampler avec floppy discs and the mega rare Cwejman S2 & Synton Fenix 19 synths, alongside his usual acidic apparatus - Roy delivers six heavily-processed 303 sizzlers, recorded straight to tape for added rawness and pressed on to vinyl for the very thirst time, following a sold out, limited edition cassette version, released in 2020.

Jack Carel joins the catalogue of the Valencian label Fill-Lex Records with a 6-track mini-album in which the Israeli producer exhibits a great capacity to generate sounds, textures and rhythms from diverse influences such as electro, industrial, IDM or EBM, proving that the barrier between different musical genres only exists for those artists or consumers of beats who try to safeguard the original identity of a style. On Somewhere Out Here each track is a different project, a different approach and a different interpretation.


Jack makes a complex homage to the most experimental music, mixing textures and frequencies, as can be heard in the introductory song of the album, "All Eyes", or closing the side with "Sand Storm" with more raw and industrial dyes typical of EBM and industrial electro. Turning the cassette over, we find a more bizarre Carel, with tracks like "No Return" where their sharp hi hats, together with a penetrating melody will make you dance like a madman. With "Tri Cops" they lower the revolutions again and light the fuse of the musical density typical of industrial experimental music.

Originally released in 2002, “Harnessed the Storm” was conceived as the opening chapter of the legendary seven Storms – a series of seven albums created within a single year and released via several labels under different names. “Harnessed the Storm” was the sole one in the series credited under the main Drexciya project.
The album, which is considered to be one of the pair's darkest, was produced in a time of creative outbreak and emo- tional turbulence. The duo's confidence was at a peak, new techniques revolutionized musical production, but the duo also had to face Stinson's severe health issues. This led to a radical shift of pace in producing and releasing music. For the Detroit pair it was time to move on from their ground-breaking past. It was time for some shape shifting and wave jumping to occur, in Drexciya’s terms.
This is reflected two-folds on the ten cuts of “Harnessed the Storm”. With seven different album projects in the pipeline, Stinson and Donald were able to give the atmospheres and structures of each individual work a more distinct focus, resulting in longer pieces and more defined moods. “Harnessed the Storm” integrated classic Drexciyan dance floor moments like “Under Sea Disturbances” and “Digital Tsunami”, brooding experiments like “Dr. Blowfins' Black Storm Stabilizing Spheres” and “Aquatic Cataclysm” which rank with the most abstract, alien and stark in their catalogue, and a few choice cuts of wave-cruising beauty into a cohesive whole – the disparate elements fused by an all-permeating sonic dread.
“Harnessed the Storm” is as much the uncanny silence before the storm - looming in the unknown, as the storm itself, making this album at once an incredibly focused sound production, as well as a journey of highest emotional complexity.
Another masterful lesson in futurist dance music from one of its strongest forces.
