VIDA PAVLOVIĆ (1945-2005) is one of the most honest, heartbreaking singers I have ever heard.  Her difficult life and untimely passing leave me wondering who she might have been, had fate been kinder to her. By tempering her pain to elevate the songs, rather than overwhelm them… she sang equally for herself as she did for all of us.  I continue to learn from listening to her.  

SUDBINA means DESTINY, a common theme in countless beloved songs.  How my destiny intertwined with these songs is a story of its own, one that will unfold as I grow into them with each passing year.  For now, I present this— my portrait of Vida, a moment in time, hoping to amplify the songs she sang, and echo the words… “Ostala je pesma moja, da se pamti jedna žena, da se peva pesma njena…” "My song remains, that you might remember this woman, and that you might sing her song..."

In their collaboration, Eva Salina & Peter Stan pick up and continue an interrupted legacy of empowered female voices in Balkan Romani (gypsy) music. Amplifying voices of past generations of Romani women musicians, Eva & Peter employ tenderness, grace, passion and a commitment to keeping these songs alive and evolving, while inspiring and teaching young people in the Balkans & Balkan diaspora to participate in living traditions. Eva & Peter are featured artists at globalFEST 2018 (NYC) presenting repertoire from SUDBINA, their new album, which comes out 3/30/2018 on Vogiton Records.

Gitkin - Canción Del Rey

Maruja Limón es un grupo que se forma a finales del 2014, con la intención de
experimentar nuevos sonidos, a través de las inquietudes de cada una de sus
componentes.
El grupo está formado por Esther González y Sheila Mesas (voces), Vicky Blum
(guitarra), Elisenda Fàbregas (percusión) y Mila González (trompeta). Estas cinco
mujeres destacan por la frescura y cercanía que transmiten en sus directos.
Su sonido presenta una variedad de influencias musicales que transitan entre los ritmos
latinos, la música mediterránea y el pop, todas ellas articuladas entorno a una raíz
flamenca. Son compositoras y arreglistas de sus propios temas, que reflejan sus
personalidades y la complicidad que hay entre ellas.

Who is Xangó?
Xango is  a god,  an Orisha: he originates from the religion of the Westafrican Yoruba people. When the Yoruba were taken across the ocean to the Caribbean and Brazil, Xango accompanied them.  You'll meet him in cuban santeria and brazilian candomble. He symbolises thunder and lightning. Xangó is very flamboyant and a great warrior, lover, drummer and dancer. He represents music in many ways... We decided to celebrate the richness of the world's music by using Xangó's name (pronounced: "shan-gó").
