3 QUESTIONS to HANNES BIEGER:

Q: Talking about your mix: How did these super early tracks shape your career and how did you find your way into Electronic Music once?

A: Of course you are not aware of this at the moment, but in hindsight you begin to see the common thread. I think there is a straight line in my mix, leading from the first track into the last one. Like probably anyone, I had to leave out a lot of stuff – the dead end streets and side roads. But I think my mix reflects very well my musical journey from my younger self, sitting whole afternoons in front of the record player at six years old, flipping my father’s Pink Floyd and Beatles vinyls over and over again – until today, looking back on a long career as a musician, mix engineer and producer already. Take „Cirrus Minor“ by Pink Floyd, the first track of my mix. At first glance it’s an acoustic guitar ballad, but then you notice the several layers of bird sound tape loops in the intro, how they open up the reverb send on the first line of the chorus, and the way they used the organ, which later seamlessly transitioned into using synthesizers. To me, in a way, this is electronic music already – and although I could not put my finger on all the details yet when I was 6, I definitely noticed there was something special about the sound of these records. At 10 I started playing electric guitar, and from the beginning I was just as interested in the way it sounded, as I was into what I was playing. This was inseparable for me practically since day one. [read full answer on our Facebook page]

Q: Besides playing as a live-act you are mastering and mix enginieer, producer, teacher. A musician all over. How would you describe your place in the electronic music world?

A: Well, this sums it up nicely already. And ultimately I think it’s up to others to answer this question. I have been wearing so many different hats in the 20 years I am doing this now that I’d like to think I have adopted a fairly holistic view of things. I think ultimately my goal is to try and make music that can stand the test of time. The wheel is turning so fast these days. Maybe I’m not so much the guy to produce DJ tools, I always aim for something that is more of a song, a story, a journey. It is important for me to point out that I am still learning and searching, trying to develop. The more you know, the more you know what you don’t know. There still is a universe out there waiting to be explored. For years I have tried to avoid becoming part of a certain scene, being pinned down to a narrow section of what I was doing. I guess I can say that I am really feeling at home now with the labels I am affiliated with, with the artist I collaborate with etc. – and I am proud to be part of a scene that is open, inclusive and international, happy to feel the unifying force of music every day.

Q: Which exciting projects are you currently working on?

A: I am further developing my live set, and I have just completed a couple releases slated for 2020, including my first full album I am releasing as „Hannes Bieger“ – it’s coming in spring on Awesome Soundwave, a fairly new label run by Carl Cox and Christopher Coe. It’s a bit more experimental than my latest releases, and I can’t wait to share it. The only vocalist featured on the album is Ursula Rucker. I have been admiring her for many, many years, and the first track where I ever heard her voice is also included in this mix: „Loveless“ by 4hero. There is a story coming full circle here, over 20 years after this record came out I am fortunate enough to finally also work with her!

PALE PENGUIN’s one of the key figures in Greek electronic scene. Based in Thessaloniki, Greece, he’s been djing for almost 20 years being one of the best Greek Breaks/Techno/Tech-House djs. Warming up to artists likes Rjd2, Thievery Corporation, Richard Dorfmeister, Nightmares On Wax, Kid Loco, Mushroom (Massive Attack), Frank Popp, Bjorn Torske, Bentley’s Rhythm Ace, Snowboy, Hooverphonic etc. He was one of the first radio producers playing Breaks/Drum n’Bass and Electronica in his legendary “Tricknology”, “Brainwash” and “Cinematica Paradiso” radio shows. Since 2003 he’s resident dj in Bar/Club Elvis, Thessaloniki, Greece presenting Friday “BreakTech” nights in which he has hosted Meat Katie, Lee Coombs, Tom Real, Malente, Andy Smith, Ursula 1000, Smacs & Crazy Sonic, Lee Bass and Aidan Lavelle. He was also resident dj to legendary club Liebe, Thessaloniki, Greece in which he has done warm-up sets for Meat Katie, Kevin Saunderson, AtJazz, Break The Box etc. He has done exclusive mix sets for many net radios (Ibreaks Radio, NSB Radio, Breakbeat.Ca site, NuBreaks Radio), exclusive mix CD’s (“Battle Of The Breaks” series) for Freeze magazine, he has performed dj sets in Thessaloniki’s International Fair, Thessaloniki’s International Film Festival, has took part many times (as member of the djs team) in the biggest Balkans Hip-Hop/Breakdance/Funky Breaks event “Battle Of The Year/Balkans”, and in many clubs throughout Europe (Flex Club/Vienna, Arttheater Club/Cologne, Art & Dance/Cologne, Rivolli/London, Club Montepulciano/London, South London Pacific/London). HIs production activities begun with SCOPITONE CONSPIRACY & POZITRONIC RAY and since 2006 he’s member of THE SCIENTIFICS-a Breaks project which have released singles and remixes for labels like V.I.M.Breaks, Erase, Basstard, Yellow Finger Communications, Warriorz Music, performed live throughout Greece, Italy and Germany, and being presented in many sites, radios, forums (BreakinAsia, Breakbeat Canada, Annie Nightingale Radio 1 Show, Ibreaks Radio, NSB Radio, Nu Breaks Radio etc). Since early 2007, together with Echonomist and Mr.Lookman, launched and manages V.I.M. (Very Important Music) Records, releasing quality Breaks, Tech-House, Electronica singles and albums by many International and Greek artists. From the beginning of 2009 he has formed with KID STRETCH the Funky/Disco-Breaks project PALE THE KID.

Dajana und Andre haben sich 2016 in Berlin musikalisch getroffen und ihre beiden inneren Klänge in einem Konzept vereint - The Fields. Sie konzentrieren sich auf emotional verwischte Versionen von Deep House und Techno, die einen einzigartigen und nahtlosen Stil kreieren, der sich mit der Menge beschäftigt und mit ihr bewegt.

Nachdem sie zu Dajanas Heimat Melbourne zurückgekehrt waren, tauchten sie in die Szene ein und hatten im Laufe der Jahre das Glück, bei fast allen großen Clubs, lokalen Festivals wie Esoteric, The Comfort Zone und Elysium sowie international beim CRSSD Festival in den USA zu spielen .

2017 gründeten sie Who Loves? - eine Veranstaltung, die die Atmosphäre eines Festivals mit der Intimität eines Cluberlebnisses verbindet. Durch die Förderung der Qualität in jeder Hinsicht und die Aufnahme unglaublicher lokaler Talente hat es sich in der Underground-Szene einen Ruf erarbeitet, auf den sie zutiefst stolz sind.

Darüber hinaus veranstalten The Fields auf KissFm wöchentlich eine Radiosendung, in der regelmäßig lokale und internationale Gäste zu Interviews und Sets eingeladen werden, um sich über die Künstler zu informieren, die hinter der Musik stehen, während sie sich mit Zuhörern im ganzen Land austauschen.

Sie fühlen sich der Tanzszene Melbournes verpflichtet und möchten ihre ganz persönliche Perspektive einbringen.

This week with The Fields. The Fields are Dajana and Andre from Berlin/Melbourne.
Our topic this week "The vibe of the rainbow", in mind, the eeriness and tension underlying it. We hope you guys enjoy it as much as they did, while they recorded it.


The Fields Official:

Dajana and Andre came together musically in Berlin in 2016, merging both their inner sounds into one concept - The Fields. They focus on emotive blurred versions of deep house and techno creating a unique and seamless style that engages and moves with the crowd.

After moving back to Dajana’s home Melbourne, they immersed themselves in the scene and over the years were fortunate enough to play at almost all major clubs, local festivals such as Esoteric, The Comfort Zone and Elysium as well as internationally at CRSSD Festival in the USA.

In 2017, they co-founded Who Loves? - an event that joins the atmosphere of a festival with the intimacy of a club experience. Through nurturing quality on every aspect and hosting incredible local talents, it has developed a reputation amongst the underground scene that they are deeply proud of.

Alongside this, The Fields run a weekly radio show on KissFm frequently inviting local and international guests for interviews and sets, allowing them to learn about the artists behind the music all whilst connecting with listeners around the country.

Urged to always chase their inner tone, they feel dedicated to Melbourne’s dance scene and love to contribute their own personal perspective.

3 QUESTIONS to TONY CASANOVA:

Q: From early 1980s sounds to the 1990s to Trance and all the way around. How did you get infected with electronic music? 

A: When I first bought the "Club Rotation" and "Future Trance" CD’s together with my buddy Conny. I think it was at the age of 12 at this time. That's when I started dreaming of becoming a DJ myself. And then, at the age of 16, I actually started making music.

Q: Do you still play some of those tracks in your DJ sets?

A: "Beatbox Rocker" and "Flat Beat" always work! 

Q: Which future projects are on the way?

A: Currently I'm working a lot on my new live set and I'm also preparing for some new projects that will come in the new year. So you can stay curious!
