Sammi Forrest brings light to the dark side of all genres of electronic music since 2017. She thrives off hard bass lines, deep industrial sounds and hypnotic rhythms.

Originally from Los Angeles, she grew up immersed in the underground rave scene since 2005, dancing to every genre from trance, house, techno, drum and bass to hardcore, industrial, hardstyle, acid and psytrance.

Now living in the San Francisco Bay Area, Sammi is bringing her driving sets to clubs, hosts her own video production podcast, promotes and organizes events. 

She has attended festivals and raves all over the world and some of her biggest influences are NIN, KI/KI, Raffaele Attanasio, 999999999, SNTS, Nina Kraviz, Xenia and Paula Temple.

This Friday, @parris_dj releases his long-awaited debut album, Soaked In Indigo Moonlight, on the can you feel the sun label he co-runs with Call Super. The album is rooted in the pop music he loves but characterised by his own inventive rhythms, joyful vocal features and the many different emotions associated with personal relationships. It comes after years of colourful and psychedelic takes on bass and techno on labels like Idle Hands and Hemlock, and marks a new high watermark in his already assured discography.

On this week’s mix, Parris threads together all aspects of his sound - there’s restrained bass music, lively grime and novel techno. Each one is skewed through his own lens and served up with compelling energy. Despite the physical results, the dynamic grooves retain the sort of depth and detail that keep your head as busy as your heel.

Amsterdam Dance Event did actually happen. Well, it was a small edition, but at least something. I must say I really liked the Dutch approach to the mask-wearing. Only mandatory in public transport… and maybe that is only me... but the idea to only do daytime parties that all need to end by midnight seemed somewhat nice. It helped a lot to have a rested Sunday to roam around the streets of Amsterdam. I played two gigs that Saturday the 16th. The first was Secret Project after Anfisa Letyago and before Jeff Mills, a fantastic festival at a great location. It perfectly tuned me up for the 3h set that I played right after Anna at Audio Obscura, where I played I ended at midnight. Also, it's a really great location with an absolutely energetic and amazing crowd (maybe another benefit of having early parties... comment in the comments if you like).
All in all, it was a fantastic day in Amsterdam with two awesome gigs. Let's continue that roll… So this week's AMFM is the third and last hour of my Audio Obscura gig, where I started with my new club mix of the just-released single "Circles" feat. Tom Adams from my forthcoming album on Mute Records (the release date is the19th of November, and it is called "Another Day"). I can't wait to get this out. Hope you enjoy the show!

New York-based DJ dreemseed pays homage to her recent stay in the UK. 

dreemseed grew up in Florida and made her way to Brooklyn over 10 years ago, becoming a staple in the city’s close-knit community. A co-curator of the brilliant down2earth mix series, we first discovered dreemseed through online mixes via some of our favourite platforms such as pipipi and The Lot Radio. With regular gigs at Nowadays, Bossa Nova Civic Club and Elsewhere, playing at nights such as pi2pi, SLINK and Incienso label showcases, dreemseed is a go-to for ethereal, trippy sets to lose yourself to whether it’s deep, introspective warm ups or hands-in-the-air bass excursions for those peak-time moments. 

Speaking about this mix, dreemseed says, "as the series is based in the UK and I had been based in the UK for roughly half the year, I thought I would let the mix be informed by the soundscape I've been coming into contact with over there. I've been in a darker mood, not like evil-wise, but just a bit more introspective and secretive. I think this is reflective of that state of mind."

For @seven-hills-records fourth original release the label presents a meeting of minds between two of its very close friends, @subb-an and @thomabulwer!

Made deep in the green countryside of Devon’s hills, before being adeptly finished off at TB Studios in Hackney Wick, the 'Devon Hills' EP pulls together influences from '90s tech-house and early breaks to bring four driving and groove-laden tracks, functional but with heaps of soul.

The A side comprises two late night Autobahn bangers, rubbery misbehaved basslines and precise chord rhythms made to hypnotise the dance. 'Devon Hills' is the most outspoken of the pair, with a loud chiming hook and an earwigging bleep melody, while 'DV-07' prefers to remain composed in its rolling bassline and sharp drum programming.

On the flip things go a little deeper with 'DV8', a padded out and chunky tribal breakbeat track with a deliciously crunchy snare. Closing out the four-track EP, 'East Wick' lightens the mood with a sporadic break and bouncy synth melody, great afters tackle.

LNOE138 sees the debut of British techno renegade; Robots With No Soul. 
Don't be fooled by robotic motifs – RWNS is an electronic battle cry for authenticity. There is no boxing, packaging and mass-producing his off-kilter drum beats, raging basslines and emotive melodies. Ben (RWNS) earlier caught the attention of the distinctive techno duo Dense & Pika releasing his debut album ‘Rose’ on their acclaimed Kneaded Pains label in 2020. 

The ‘Sedona Circle’ EP includes three originals and a special remix on ‘Morning Glory’ by Eats Everything, the UK dance legend who is currently celebrating the tenth anniversary of his career. 

The release is filled with moments of pure clubbing bliss, from the euphoric undertones on the title track ‘Sedona Circle’ to the enigmatic structures supporting ‘Morning Glory’. The latter also got reinterpreted by Eats Everything on his ’10 Years of Eats Everything Remix’, stripping the composition down to its bones and transforming the track into one of his groovy club weapons that we all know him for. 

Ben (RWNS) comments; “The title track “Sedona Circle” is the product of a particular self healing journey I went on earlier this year. I participated in a 21 day ‘raise your vibration’ challenge where myself and others went on a guided mediation journey and were spiritually transported to a rock in Sedona, California. We were asked to combine all of our energy to try and create something magical and profoundly beautiful. During this process all I could hear was this euphoric music in my head. It was an incredible experience which culminated in the making of this track. 

It’s a real pleasure to have Eats Everything join me on this EP showcasing his trademark sound. I’ve had the pleasure of witnessing all of his achievements over this past decade, I’m very proud of him. It’s an honour to share this special moment with him on this release. Here’s to another ten years! Also special thanks go out to Sasha for all of his support. It means absolutely everything to me. “

What is techno if not a powerful conduit for energy? The movement of a sequence, the surge of an effects rush, the respondent reaction in every individual dancer and the moving mass of the crowd as a whole. Whether the frequencies transmit directly into the brain through the intimacy of a headphone reverie, reverberate through the architecture of a space or fill the formless void of the open air, techno’s potency to initiate and stimulate energetic events is profound. This is something Pfirter understands intimately, having spent more than 15 years exploring ways of manipulating the energy on a dancefloor.

Of course, energy is not just about volume and aggression. Tonality, spatial processing and composition can have just as profound an effect as the thump of the kick drum. On his new album Altered States, Pfirter proves that point by zeroing in on the cerebral, psychedelic elements of his craft across 10 incisive tracks. The Argentine producer consciously approached his second album (following 2019’s The Empty Space) with a minimal mindset, using a very focused set of drum machines and synths to achieve a consistency across the record. Captured over a short burst of creativity, it’s the sound of an artist pushing a limited array of tools as far as possible. Despite this concise palette, it’s not an album that repeats itself, but rather an extended trip that flows from one detailed, textured immersion to the next.

The dense, febrile waves of hard-oscillating ripples in ‘A Future In Chaos’ and the sparkling, off-key chimes adorning ‘Yearn’ all speak to Pfirter’s gift for extravagant, surrealist expression within his tracks. ‘Altered States’, by way of contrast, succeeds in its absolute immediacy – a piledriving statement of bleep-driven intent. ‘Boiler’ and ‘Convergence’ land somewhere in between, coiling around kinked rhythmic incantations which still push forwards with precision while offering a different angle from which to approach the dancefloor. Cementing the idea of the whole album as a listening experience, Altered States is bookended by ‘Venus’ and ‘Dissolution’, two minimal exercises in drone-oriented mood setting.

Pfirter understands the role of his music, and his own instincts as a performing artist. It’s crafted to be captivating for DJs as much as the attentive listener. Spanning linear rhythms and broken beats, moments of calm and writhing intensity, Altered States offers a multitude of energetic possibilities in the mix or as a standalone piece of music. Ultimately, it’s a masterful return from a leading light of the contemporary techno scene.
