A new signee to Infinite Machine, Bonebrokk’s The Astral Catalyst EP marks his first official release for the Athens-based producer outside of his Trial & Error imprint. Influenced by late capitalism and sci-fi dystopias, across two productions Bonebrokk deftly showcases his ‘ExoPunk’ sound; a retrofuturist mix of broken beats from the continuum blended with meticulous, future-facing sound design. Long-standing IM alumni Galtier as well as techno giant Surgeon round off the release with two blistering remixes of Bonebrokk’s originals.

The Astral Catalyst opens with the EP’s eponymous track - an heady dose of industrial percussion and low-end bassweight that could easily shake the paint off a club’s walls. Amongst these dense layers of clattering percussion and dread-laiden bass lines, Bonebrokk weaves in haunting cycles of noisy feedback - a dissonant ghost in the machine.

The following track, Hyperparadox, eases up on the bass somewhat but goes big on the breaks. The track’s mid-range groans and samples that seem to squelch like shoes hitting mud gives Hyperparadox an almost tactile and material nature; as if you could physically sink your teeth into Bonebrokk’s rich arrangement here.

First up on remix duties; UK dance music giant Surgeon reworks The Astral Catalyst into a 3am fever dream, taking Bonebrokk’s original into a more functional techno direction. Surgeon applies a heavy, groove-laden drum pattern to the track whilst still keeping its unnerving mood and white noise-rich environment of The Astral Catalyst very much intact.

Closing off the EP, Galtier reworks Hyperparadox by stripping back some of the layers of samples but ramping up the tension with the elements he leaves in the mix. A great prelude to a bigger body of work by Galtier that Infinite Machine will be releasing soon.

A wild blend of dubstep and breakbeats that could easily re-soundtrack a nightclub scene from The Matrix, this might be the first but it’s certainly not the last time you’ll be hearing Bonebrokk’s unique sound

The Nostro Hood System summons forth it’s second full-length album from Berlin-based Eduardo Pesole, titled ‘Botanical Garden’. Taking influence from a beloved flower species, Eduardo takes the name ‘Hypocyrta Glabra’. Bringing a wealth of knowledge from an instrumental background, morphing further into sound engineering and composition for both short film, fashion and interactive media & video games, the sparse influences and practices result in a oblique approach to electronic music that takes form as fluid, organismal growths of xeno origin to that of earth.

We see the vision for the album germinate: ‘After 2 years of wandering through videogame sound design, abstract ambient live performances and improvisations, and the Berlin club scene I decided to synthesize my journey into music with this record, the botanical garden in berlin has been my peaceful oasis in which I could escape from the mess of the city and with the years passing this became a ritual, tripping at the botanical garden to reconnect myself with nature and escape the city. In a way composing this album has been the same thing, escaping from the boredom of the daily routine after being impacted by a lay off from the gaming industry. The composition process became a playful and peaceful ritual to escape from bad places of my mind and reconnect to my true self, finally I had time to nourish to my true essence.’

Our artist realizes a world that wholly occupies the NHS galaxy: ‘Each year, the inhabitants of planet BLIN journey to a place forbidden to all others: The botanical garden. this is the sole location on the planet where life still springs forth from seeds, water, sunlight and the lunar cycle. Yet, for this to occur, those who still posses knowledge of the ancient botanical techniques (a small group passing down these generational skills) must initiate a ritual wherein the old world and the new are able to coexist. The soil, no longer soil becomes fertile, the water, no longer water, becomes nourishment. it is the most primordial ritual in existence. None are permitted to observe the act of generation, yet all who have survived the new world shall, for the remainder of the year, partake of its fruits.’

Across the entire collection, an effervescent spirit of youth and life springs out, bubbling through the feverish palette of sounds, primarily propagated via granular synthesis and resampling techniques. The overarching intention takes form as a ‘digital forest’, channelling the chaos of nature through computerised, alien-like aesthetics and structures that are constantly evolving and re-forming, like sped up evolution occurring before your ears.

Hypocyrta Glabra - Bouncing Baum [NHS029]

I've been trying to imagine a context in which this set would be perfect to listen to and I had to wait for a celebration to happen to find the right one.

 However, I'm not talking about the celebration itself. I'm referring more to the place or
the places where the gathering allowed you to go.
The sort of musical den you are able to enter with your friends and the words of care that brought you there.

During the first twelve minutes, you can find songs intended to make you feel nostalgic, often longing for things that never even happened to you; they are very atmospheric in kind.
Apparently, It's called hypnagogic pop, and it turns out it is my favorite type of music.

From there on, you'll find some very delicate and melodic dub techno tracks  (nordic sweets mostly 🤤) that slowly turn into a more naturistic vibe 🌀🌱 (amazonian jungle kind of aura.. rwaaaar 😼)

I close with a blend of two meditative tracks; quite romantic in nature; allowing to turn the nostalgia into a more pleasant feeling of hope.

“Nie Boję Się” is the first single from @spalarnia 's upcoming album Paradoks. Like the album, it is inspired by Eastern European spirituality, folk traditions, eurodance, and R’n’B. The track is suspended in a continuous state of becoming, hovering between a ballad and a club banger. It takes its title (meaning “I'm not afraid” in Polish) from the first line of the lyrical meditation on the relationship between fear and desire delivered in spalarnia's trademark voice oscillating between singing and speaking, calmness and intensity.

Paradoks will be released on November 15 as a box set (incl. a CD, a shirt, a bag, and a booklet), in digital format, as well as for streaming. The album is jointly published by @gang-of-ducks from Turin and the Switzerland-based @praesens_editionen and features illustrations by Polish artist Mania Łukaszewska.

spalarnia is the music project of Wojciech Kosma, a performance artist known for his intimate, quasi-theatrical works. He creates a unique brand of hypnotic and poetic emotionality—both in his recordings and live performances, as well as in his many collaborations. He has performed widely, including at Tate Modern, Cell Projects, Camden Arts Centre, Galerie Molitor, 90mil, Ephemera Festival, Komuna Warszawa, and numerous DIY venues across Poland. His music has been released by @dymrecordsmusic , enjoy life, @ehhahah , Alicja, and his own imprint Poza.

Gang of Ducks is an artist-run multidisciplinary platform—operated by @sabla , XIII, and Oddgrad—that has, over the course of the past 11 years, published audio works by artists such as @donato-dozzy , Sara Berts, @f-cavaliere , Anna Homler, @haf-haf , and River Y.

Infused by heavy barrel kicks and hard industrial rhythms this release embodies the energetic and trance-like state of a PARA|DØX closing set—with a clear message at its core: MEET ME AT THE RAVE.

I played this one for the first time at the EXIT event on the 2nd of August at Klub Pan (Hannover, Germany) within an extended Closing and instantly matched the energy.
I finished this project just a couple of hours before the set and immediately had to give it a spin - I guess it's one of those gems for very sweaty club sets.
