These songs are an expression of the feelings that arise after humans go through difficult situations. These feelings are raw and intense and can make us feel like the world is closing in on us. Coping can look like many things; sometimes we need music that matches that intensity so we can process the emotions and feel validated through frequencies, rather than trying to run from them. I made this bass and melody out of my dog's beautiful singing voice :) my dog, mala, is my anchor in this life. she keeps me laughing and smiling and I genuinely don't know if I would've made it through the past 5 years without her. anyone who has had the pleasure of meeting her knows how silly and special she is. I wanted to find a way to honor her and make it so she can live on forever through sound; this song is for that, and for all the dog lovers out there ❤️

Earlier this year I released my first of this series, BANG3RZ, with a bunch of heavier tunes I wrote mainly while I was taking a break from the project. The idea behind this series was to express the story of how Xenolinguist came to be, which I'm sure many can relate to. I started where most of us do, in the realm of mids heavy, loud, party-time EDM. While I was taking a step back, I started to experiment with genres for fun, and found my love for the more intense sides of bass music, and how it helped me through some hard and heavy emotions I experienced before and was experiencing again. I learned how music validates our emotions, and how honoring all versions of ourselves, we can truly heal, move forward, and develop self-love. 

I began my journey into the realms of psychedelic bass music in 2013, which was much more comparable to the music I was writing then. I found myself gravitating towards the more psychedelic and deep side of the spectrum with production and decided to start a new project, xenolinguist, where I would express myself through music fully and without the judgment of others determining my path. Sticking to that plan and figuring out what that sounds like has been hard and a journey in itself. This mix includes songs that I only dreamed I'd be capable of writing one day, and are what I've envisioned for my sound for years. That 19-year-old Meg wouldn't believe it. Or I'd have something to complain about maybe, knowing me 😅

HMC GUEST MIX 033 - XENOLINGUIST (BICYCLE DAY ALL ORIGINAL)

I wrote this song's bass using virtual riot riddim sounds from a pack on splice that I chopped up and rearranged. Here is a link to that sample pack!

I usually do my own bass sound design these days, but this song I made from premade super-lit virtual riot sounds. All of the bass samples I used in this song are no more than one hits or parts cut out of a phrase (I couldn't be that savage). Why would I do this? Well, it was when I was on a hiatus so I didn't care, and it was SO FUN :)  I had also recently found out how common it was to do so. Writing this one actually helped me with my own sound design and mixing a ton because of how top-heavy the frequencies are. I tend to get overstimulated by higher-frequency sounds, but I learned to keep my focus on the arrangement and quality with the notion less is more. 

So many people use samples in their writing, so don't make it harder for yourself than it needs to be ❤️ make your own samples and save them, then you can do the same concept with your own sounds too. And don't be scared to respectfully (and legally/ethically) utilize samples in your tracks! 

And because this a free download and because of how I wrote it, I figured AI art would be the most appropriate 😅

This is my gift to my listeners, because I know many of you like my downtempo the most :) I hope this one resonates with you, as it has for me. The message is to embrace your 'innerchild' and never let it go; let this time of year remind you of the imagination, excitement, joy, and love we all share as humans in this life over the years.

Not the expensive presents, greed, stress, or the capitalistic bs, but whatever made you truly happy as a child. I used to loveee caroling for elderly and making them happy, and believing in Santa in any creative way I could think up. I still love making gifts for people I want to show my appreciation to, and hanging up ornaments and decorations that carry memories. Watching the polar express like its a religious ceremony, the house smelling like pine and cookies and all the memories of our friends coming over on christmas eve. The town santa clause coming to our house to give us a bag of toys, bugging our older cousins to play with us at the family party, and now adays, the video chats with my family and getting passed around the dinner table.

I used to complain about a lot of these things, but as I've gotten older, I've realized how much of a gift it is to have had these experiences, and to still have the memories and feelings that only arise this time of year, whether they be good or bad. The message is the same, childhood is sacred and the imagination, innocence, and pure joy we held then should be cherished forever.

Thank you for sticking around for the journey of Xenolinguist if you have, and I hope this song can help you connect to your own 'innerchild' and help you appreciate them, just as I appreciate all that you've all done for me by supporting me over the years and allowing me to live my dreams.
