Our next guest, Volker Bahmer, aka V.B. Kühl provides a live set like no other. As a multi-instrumentalist, he has developed a unique approach : remixing his own productions - improvising with loops, synths, vocoder, percussion, and samplers. Rooted in Funk, Hip-Hop, Jazz, and House, his memorable performances have been featured with HÖR and Club Der Visionaere. 

“In this set I started with one of my releases from last year, Choogie and – as always – let the vibe take over the control. I never know what's coming when I start to play. I just prepare some tunes to start with and the rest is riding the wave and improvise. The other tunes I used in this set are Funky Architect (Kosmos Tapes Vol.1), Sweater Looser (unreleased) and Needless To Say. I've been getting into Deep House a lot lately and I think that's good to hear, but I never (hopefully!) loose the Funk.”

Tye West is easily one of the most versatile djs in Los Angeles, with 24 years behind the decks and sets spanning five continents. His approach: raw energy, embracing risks, and endlessly layering sounds. For Tye, DJing isn’t about flawless execution, it's about pushing boundaries and reimagining the tracks. 

His sets blend everything from reggae and leftfield to Chicago house, dub techno, and jazz. The only constants? The quality of the tracks and the relentless pursuit of groove.

somebody3lse is a vinyl collector and DJ with over 30 years of experience. Growing up in London, the local soundsystems in streets and parks on their Islington doorstep and at Notting Hill Carnival were heavily influential in shaping their taste.

Starting out on London’s pirate radio Rave FM in 1990, they now DJ on CKUT and La Face B. Current projects include the Vinyl Inclusion Project, demystifying vinyl collecting and DJing, and moodswings, an event embracing leftfield sounds and self-expression. 

A true collector - music is their passion and love language, shared both on the dance floor and over the airwaves. We are honored to have Jan on the series.

We’re honored to welcome Brian Cavender aka Seafoam to Xenophile with a rare and deeply personal contribution. An all-original mix from a producer whose music stands in a class of its own. Unafraid to sidestep trends, his discography speaks volumes - each release a testament to his dedication to staying true to his own artistic identity.

This mix offers a rare glimpse into Seafoam’s world - one filled with emotion, subtlety, and a depth that rewards close listening. Shaped by influences as wide-ranging as Al Green and Aphex Twin, it explores house, ambient, and a touch of the unexpected at its finest.

In addition to sequencing and tweaking knobs, Brian is a drummer at heart - often layering live percussion into his productions. His percussive work is as much a signature as his melodies, and if you’ve been tuned in over the years, you’ll recognize it instantly. It’s unmistakably his.

Ms. Ed is a Los Angeles based DJ and resident for https://soundcloud.com/acidcamp whose goal is to play what moves you. She hopes this mix keeps the sun on your skin but the ice in your bones, and helps to reclaim a joyful calm from what is an oddly quiet, yet turbulent summer.

When it comes to music, her favorite sounds are bittersweet and her affinity for minor chords lead to a euphoric selection of tracks. She finds solace in a defiantly sad but resilient vocal, or a timbre that teeters on the edge of overflowing joy and infinite sadness. For this mix, she lingers in the subtle space between the two extremes.

Roem is a duo between harpist, Caroline Campbell and Sound Practitioner El Larson on the modular synthesizer. Caroline & El met in 2016 and were drawn by the unique, raw, ethereal qualities of the others artistry and instruments. The harp and modular synthesizer, while both having similar tonal qualities, are on opposite ends of the spectrum of acoustic and electronic. Roem’s music is raw & improvisational - at times dark, meditative and pensive.

The new compositions on this mix were recorded during quarantine.
