My sleep cycle has been a disaster for the past couple weeks. This is one of the random ideas that came together during the early AM hours over the past few days. Lots of barre chords and numb index fingers were involved in the making of this song. Fixed up a few things with the drums and fine tuned some layers. Woot! 

Insomnia

Sooooo here's a pro tip: ALWAYS SAVE YOUR PROGRESS. I didn't, and my DAW crashed while trying to export the latest version of this song. My saved progress is missing the last minute or so of guitars, plus a ton of minor changes throughout. This copy was a work-in-progress version that I had here on soundcloud to listen to at work and stuff to figure out what else to change, and is the most current version I have. The entire outro (the best part, imo) was mostly an accident at first, and I have no idea how to recreate certain parts of it. Oh well. :/ There were better fills in a couple spots too, but what's here does the job. So yeah. SAVE YOUR SHIT. 

This is the same song that was called Relentless, but soundcloud always tweaks out when I upload a newer version with the same title, and that 2.0 shit is lame. It's called Orchestral Thing because the original idea was this big epic orchestral jam all the way through, but in the end it got super toned down and now the only strings are some of the layers in the intro. It's funny how much an idea can change over the course of its production... Anyways. 

Orchestral Thing

3:15. WHAT. World record. It even has an outro and everything! There's chugs, clean bits, heavy bits... And there's a surprising lack of piano on this one lol. This one came out of the same Halloween inspiration pit that spawned my last song, so the style is kind of similar, but whatever. Enjoy! 

Splinter

FINALLY an idea that uses something other than my go-to six string. This idea is the first time I've recorded more than just ambient shit with my RGA7. I'm still probably gonna try to get some new pickups in this thing at some point, but I think I dialed in a tone I'm at least happy with for now. 

I have absolutely no idea where I can take this idea, but I definitely see it as a sweet build at the end of a second verse, or into the outro of a song or something. I dunno. This is really just a tone test using a riff that popped into my head earlier today, and some practice with making a build up around a repeating progression. It's also my first attempt at recording in 6/8, which is... Different. Drum fills are much harder to come up with while staying in the groove of the track. But whatever. Maybe I'll keep messing with this idea, maybe I won't. We'll see.

Release (Sustained)

Whoa, BASS! It kicks in on the second playthrough. Trying out some settings, and gonna see if I can make some older material shine with some sweet, rumbley low end. 

Bass Test

Old songs/riffs were brought back from the grave and frankensteined together to make this. I spent more time tweaking the guitar/bass balance than anything, and I'm pretty damn happy with how it turned out. \m/

Revival

Holy shit, almost 6 minutes. There's calm bits, blast beats, chromatic stuff sort of, key changes, sweet bass drops... 

Change

I think this is the last remix I ever made. It's nothing too crazy, but I had fun with distorted violins (that droney instrument all throughout with the filter fluctuations), and stereo/mono fun during the bridge that I still dig the shit out of all these years later. 

Meet Your Master (Remix)

Another old NIN remix, this one from 2007. Nothing too fancy here either. I just turned it into a simple, kinda dark dancy track. It got meh reviews at remix.nin.com unfortunately. 

God Given (Remix)

This is a mash up between a Linkin Park song called Announcement Service Public, and Nine Inch Nails' Only. Somehow it works better than it should. I've unfortunately long lost the stems to this mashup, so the clipping issues with the drums at the end shall be a part of it forever... :(

Only Vs ASP

Hands down the most popular remix I've done. 23,000+ listens on remix.nin.com, and thanks to youtube videos (that are still being uploaded as recently as a week ago!), another 320,000+ listens. Like most of the other remixes here, the stems are long gone (they're actually on a harddrive I still own, but it's corrupted...), so all the clipping is permanently a part of the track. The "winding up" guitar part was the riff loaded into FL Studios turn table plugin, and then with Audacity recording my stereo output, I slowly increased the play speed until it was normalized. 

Ruiner (Reconstructed)

For fans of: double bass, chinas, pianos and palm mutes, with a healthy dose of reverb and delay. I dunno what to call it besides ambient metal.
