At 1142 metres above sea level, the ‘Brocken’ (also known as the ‘Blocksberg’) is the highest mountain in the ‘Harz’, a mid-range mountain group in Central Germany. Put simply, it is a large block of granite, a plutonic rock. It is shrouded in legends and mystery. My father grew up in this area as a child and of course knew the old stories and myths, including some about the so-called "Brocken Ghost"...

„When the observer's shadow falls on a layer of fog or clouds, the shadow is not represented by a solid surface, but by each drop of water in the haze individually. As a result, the brain cannot see the shadow stereoscopically and significantly overestimates the size. Air movements cause the shadow to move, even when the observer is standing still. This seemingly separate entity can also float and hover without having any visible contact with the ground. The other physical conditions on the mountain, cool and damp air, silence, as well as the lack of orientation due to a lack of foresight and neighbouring mountains, reinforce the subjective impression of the apparent existence of a ghost."

Weirdness

March is such a "two-faced" month in the northern latitudes, it can caress with a kiss of sunlit warmth, or slap the face with high winds and freezing temperatures--maybe in the same day!  It is so fickle these "ides of March" which Shakespeare told us to beware of.  The mood and playing of this song came upon me like one of those Ides, riffing on something much more mellow, when I randomly strummed an E major chord, then again with more force, then faster, stronger...I had to capture the moment, but like March weather, you can't be angry all the time, and so the caress of the Cordoba nylon. You might ask what the mellow riffing sounded like I was first practicing on--wait for it:)

Not Nothin

This piece of music was created around three years ago.
It is dedicated to all the people who are no longer with us — those we've lost, yet still feel close to in spirit.

The composition carries the emotions of that time — grief, warmth, acceptance, and memory.
It features fragments of church chants I personally recorded, giving the track a spiritual and deeply intimate dimension.

This is more than just music — it's an attempt to express through sound what words often struggle to convey.

For every soul that's left this world, but never truly left us — may this be a quiet echo reaching wherever they now are.
