Cello + looper + field recordings. Conserve native grasslands! 

Piece inspired by the native wildflowers in Victorian temperate grasslands. I made the field recordings at a grassland reserve and added live cello loops over them. Each cello motif is symbolic of a species of wildflower I observed and identified.

Please excuse the poor audio quality of my phone mic. Idea is to compose a whole suite of pieces dedicated to the native grasslands and record them properly someday. In the meantime, enjoy this!

Wildflowers (Live demo ver.)

This piece was inspired by cloudy overcast days that are not gloomy, but instead - strangely cozy and comforting. It's about finding warmth in the melancholy and finding beauty in the chaos. 

It's inspired by my two current obsessions: organs and the Elgar cello concerto. I'm fascinated by the oscillating quality of the organ's sound, which I have tried to emulate using a synthesiser (Deckhard's Dream). The water-like soundscape was created with a granular synthesiser used in conjunction with a synthesiser (Moog DFAM?)

The 3rd movement of Elgar's cello concerto for me conjures the imagery of death and transcendence; of a person's soul leaving this world and floating up towards the blinding sun in a delirious catharsis. It's one of the most beautiful pieces I have ever played, and I wanted to bring that sense of a blissful fever-dream to this piece.
