Brought to you by @6uling, who hails from the multi-cultural melting pot that is the Island Nation of Indonesia.

"If anyone was to ask me what Indonesian music sounds like, I can’t answer directly. Nor can I point to one reference, since we live in an archipelago country that has so many different tribes & cultures. 
Considering Indonesia’s geographical location is surrounded by 4 of the 6 major straits in the world, it has certainly been passed by ships from around the world since Colonial times. 
Therefore, our multi-cultural attitude as global citizens exists as the result of this acculturation. 
This mix is the summary of how those diverse sounds have evolved from strange noise to today's sounds." - Guling

With releases on HARD FIST, as well Indonesian label/collective @softbrute, (which he also curates) Guling has most recently been focusing his energy collecting and archiving rare and unreleased Indonesian vinyl as part of his new collaborative project Mantrino Records, an appointment only record store in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

Back after a short hiatus with a fresh mix from another far flung corner of the globe, Iran! 

We couldn't be more stoked to bring you @radiogoli's Mahsa Alafar, the first (and only!) female radio presenter in Iran.

From the woman herself:
"I hope you like it, it's a little different, it's about our revolution which is happening as we speak. It started with the death of a 22-year-old young girl called Mahsa Amini who got arrested by the regime's morality police because of her hijab, and then dies in their custody because they beat her up. 

Since, there is unrest all around the country, causing a woman-led revolution in a regime that oppressed women in every sense. So all the songs in this mix are revolutionary songs (Except one, which is Iran's original national anthem before the Islamic revolution) that people are using and sharing on their social media. 

The name of this mix is our chant for this movement which is ZAN, ZENDEGI, AZADI meaning WOMAN, LIFE, LIBERTY."

People were writing things like: for child labor, for forbidden dogs (dogs are forbidden in Iran according to Islamic teachings so the regime kills them brutally), for freedom, etc. Shervin got arrested when his video of this song went viral, for I guess two weeks he disappeared and upon his release he was made to confess to things he didn't do. It's one of the tactics dictator regimes use, forced confessions."

Back after a hiatus, our most recent contribution hails from the land of Golden Buddhas, Boat Noodles, Tuk Tuks and Chillies hot enough to make you cry, the one and only land of Siam - Thailand!

Kanehbos, part of the Zudrangma Records family and Studio Lam Local, has kindly put together a compilation of his favourite Thai psych/funk cuts from the 70’s & 80’s. A verifiable connoisseur when it comes to Thai Vinyl and its various musical stylings, so strap in as Kanehbos showcases some of Thailand’s best little-known LP’s, dug straight from his personal collection and the Zudrangma archives.

GLOBALOCAL MIXTAPE 015 w/Kanehbos (TH)

Rounding out 2023 we have an absolute belter of a mix from Sydney local @maggietrasys.

Cambodian/Vietnamese-Australian Artist Maggie Tra digs deep into the Cambodian side of her heritage to bring us a unique selection of local classics, unknown rarities and original edits. 

Maggie combines classic instrumentation, folk melodies and stylish sound design to create a truly authentic Khmer experience. Her music showcases a rich and complex cultural heritage that is often overlooked by the grand tourist attractions of Angkor and more recent warfare and genocide.

Cambodia (Kampuchea in Khmer) is one the most ancient empires of Southeast Asia and its food, music and culture lives on in strength through the next generation of tenacious forward thinking youth. 

Maggie is helping lead the way with her solo output which references everyday life in the village, with tracks such as ‘Nham Bai’ - which is the most common greeting, and both a question and an offer - “Eat Rice?”.

"Pho The Girls” is another initiative Maggie has helped spearhead, which provides DJ workshops to women and non-binary people looking to break into the music industry throughout Asia and Australia.

Crack a ice-cold coconut from your neighbourhood Bong (“Brother”). Kick back and bask in the fiery sun as it sets over the land of seven headed snakes, palm trees, pink dolphins, floating villages and temples swallowed by the hungry jungle.

“As much as I’ve tried to separate myself from my national identity throughout the years, there was something very cathartic and educational about putting together this mix. Not wanting to focus on a specific genre, and not wanting to do a dance mix, I needed to find some conceptual thread throughout that made sense to me - and it slowly emerged directly through reflections on the experience of being from Iceland and it’s weird mixture of bright beauty and weird unnerving darkness. In my search for material tracks popped up that directly referenced our own insecurities of being a small nation, our independence, our natural phenomenons, our ancestral lineage and other things. In our first instalment of the new year we have something totally unique! Haling from Bulgaria @Outofitt, has kindly curated an hour of raw-dawg cassette rips and rare or unreleased recordings of Underground Post-Soviet Hardcore, Punk and DIY-wildness! 

"In the end of 1988 a small group of people had already started forming some kind of underground community. Some people had records, casettes and magazines from the Western World but it wasn't the popular metal of back then - it was grindcore, noisecore, crust, anarchopunk, hardcore. But this was just the beginning. There was a real race about who would manage to get more records and magazines from the scenes abroad. We were writing thousands of letters every month with the hope to get a reply and maybe even a fanzine, a record, or a cassette. We started exchanging Vodka and Rakia for music with the punks from Western Europe and the US. Sometimes they just sent us stuff for free, because they realised that we still didn't have bands and zines here. I would like to thank all of these hardcore kids around the whole world, who supported the non-existing hardcore/punk scene in Bulgaria at that time. The Underground network from back then is the reason that the scene still exists in Bulgaria!"
