One of the things that I love about playing for Asheville Movement Collective's Sunday Dance is the invitation to set an intention or theme to one's dj set. I drew inspiration from the first I'Ching hexagram.

Ch’ien / The Creative

The creative power of dance is available to us now. Let any frantic activity of the mind dissolve into the dance with open receptivity. 

Explore dance, movement, breath, stillness and wonder. Explore your “yes.” Explore your “no.” Explore your light. Explore your shadow. Open your heart. All is forgiven with love and compassion.

Let us gather again, on this sacred dance floor. 

What this mix has to offer is a journey, a time and space to move and be moved. To let old patterns that no longer serve you to pass over and on, with ease and grace. To make more room for the expansion of your gifts and dreams. 

To balance your wild spirit and woke mind.

Spiritito ❤ Wild Dancing Souls

Susana Baca is one of the reigning queens of Afro-Peruvian music, a rich mix of infectious folkloric rhythms such as "Samba Lando" and "Alcatraz".  Much like the Cuban son, the magic of Afro-Peruvian music centers on the meeting of African drums and Spanish guitars.  I first heard Baca on David Byrne's Luaka Bop compilation singing her incredible classic "Maria Lando" and have been fascinated ever since.

Esta es una ofrenda de gratitud por todo lo que nos ha mostrado este año, y por poder soltar esas viejas ropas, formas, dinámicas, historias, creencias, que ya no nutren nuestra vida y nuestros vínculos con todos los seres sintientes de este planeta, humanos y no. Esta es una oración a la Vida, para darle la bienvenida al nuevo ciclo que está por abrirse, abrazar lo desconocido que llega, en confianza que está guiado por la Divina Mano del Tejido Universal con sentido y propósito de amor y equilibrio. !Un muy feliz y provechoso cierre de año a todos!
