ASTRAL PROJECTION SET  : : JUNE 2022

Here it is: the full recording of my set at this year's edition of Boom Festival!

It's the first time that my whole performance was covered and professionally edited - so this is something truly special for me!

A little background info: I felt like a little kid when I entered the Dance Temple on the final morning of the festival. I was nervous as fck, excited as hell but as well amped to the max, enthusiastic and truly positive to having the chance, the challenge and as well the privilege to play for this amazing dancefloor. 

Months before the festival, a thought crossed my mind if it wouldn't be wiser and as well safer to skip improvisation this time and to prepare a set - safety first style. But a minute later I erased this thought as I realized that by doing this, I would give away the advantage of a DJ set versus a 'live' set: the ability to get into direct communication with the dance floor and to have a dialogue with the crowd based on giving, receiving and thus mutually creating a journey rather than a pre-arranged monologue of just sending out frequencies.  

So I went ahead with my trademark Boom Shankar approach of full improvisation with all its advantages and as well disadvantages. You might be able to see this in the linked video: it took me a bit to establish this connection as the energy I received from the floor was quite intense, but in the end I felt that we fully clicked and thus created an energetic and truly beautiful connection! 

Seeing the outcome of this connection in the video makes me so happy, and it confirms that this decision and the impromptu approach were the right choices.
Being able to make people dance, to create smiles and to exchange energies and vibes with each other - to make others happy with what makes me happy - is one of the most beautiful experiences of my life, and I am so thankful that I have the opportunity to do that!

1st of November is All Saints in Belgium, the day we go to the cemetery to honor and pray for the people we lost. Because of the happenings at Nova Festival and the fact I was on that spot that same weekend, I wanted to honour all my personal pals and friends that went to the other world while dancing in an imaginary perfect world. I did this tribute through music. Sometimes words can't express feelings, but music can. This set was played at the Old is Gold party in Belgium the week after the happenings and it contains only music by Israëli artists, and some tracks from Naor Levi's (Dj Audiophiller) compilation. On top of that, many of the titles/samples have a special meaning as well. It is a 3 hours long journey from more darkish acidic goa-trance to heavenly melodic blisfull music. All mixed with CDJ2000's and original cds.

Important addendum: this tribute is not political in any way and, as a pacifist, I am against all violence. I believe every innocent dead person is a disgrace and a shame for mankind and I can only hope war stops right now. As a young dad every video with kids and babies that died or were bombed, simply breaks my heart. I hope all spirits of people that loved to dance and are not alive anymore can join in heaven on the wildest goa-party ever! Whatever history, color, religion or culture you have!

It was like a dream. From the moment I was diagnosed with a form of Leukemia, my goal was to play music again. For months and months survival chances were not too big, and dj-ing was a far away fantasy. Untill Surya Spirits. A Belgian festival happening 10km away from the hospital. Almost 3 months I was in the hospital and the doctors understood the importance of this gig so they allowed me to play (and return immediately after). It was magic. It was fantastic. It was all I could dream of. It was... The healing power of music. It was raining cats and dogs untill I started to play (literally) and the sun broke through a few minutes after. The crowd gathered, stomping in the mud while smiling in the sun. I adapted my set to a euphoric, emotional, melodic story. Because that is how I felt in that afternoon sun. Celebrate life! And yes... I knew immediately, yes, this is one of the main reasons why I will heal! Of course there is still a long way to go, but if I am having a bad time, I put myself on the bed, close my eyes and bring the memories back of this gig. Sunshine, happy people and an energy I rarely felt before! Thank you lovely trance tribe, you gave me life and made my life rich! ❤

In case you missed the Moon Mountain Farewell Livestream Event, here is my Boom Shankar set in full length.

It's actually a BMSS Records showcase featuring some of the upcoming and still unreleased highlights which will come out in the next months, so you can get a good taste of the direction we are taking with the label and as well the style I prefer to play right now. The set pays respect to the full power vibe of the Asian underground, so expect a high octane psychedelic roller coaster ride.

Some background info: for 17 years Moon Mountain Party has been one of Asia's best kept secrets in terms of underground events. The gathering took place on a floating village made out of 2-story rafts all toed together on Kanchanaburi lake in central Thailand and featured the creme de la creme of Asia based artists and our fellow trance-travel community. I will be forever thankful to all those amazing people who took part in our event and who turned it into one of my annual touring highlights!

Massive thanx and respect to Nun, Papa, Jacky, Eddy, Radzy, Sabai Sabai, Ton, Tom, Tommy, John Lee, Ssongg, Koi, to my BMSS family, EPIC Tribe, Spirit Zone, Blue Moon Productions, Purple Hexagon, Goa Productions and all the other artists and freaks who took part in this special gathering.
