We’re delighted and proud to announce our new series, B.A.D.mix, where we will showcase our favourite DJs from across the globe.

At B.A.D., we’re committed to uplifting voices from the whole diaspora - this is something we aim to reflect with the series, with a particular focus on those who have flown under the radar so far, alongside mixes from some more familiar names.

To inaugurate the new series, we are truly honoured to host a mix from techno founding father, Detroit native, with a career spanning multiple decades: Eddie Fowlkes (@detroitwax). Eddie has blessed us with a full white-label mix, with some Motor City classics as well as some hidden gems - all perfectly blended with the smooth touch of a true originator.

Chez Damier has devoted his life to electronic music as a vocalist, DJ, producer, label manager and graphic artist. Splitting his time between Detroit, Chicago and occasionally New York, Chez set up the Music Institute with Derrick May and Alton Miller looked after the business affairs and studio output of Kevin Saunderson's KMS label, and helped countless producers get a start in production. On top of that, he has a kick ass discography of his own, his work with Ron Trent on Prescription coming to near define an era in club music - Chez' is truly one of the greatest story never told in house music.

Anthony "Shake" Shakir is a rare kind of Detroit Techno living legend - he is an authentic iconoclast. He co-wrote "I Believe" with Octave One for Transmat, was the first Detroit artist to work with breakbeats for his "5% Solution" record for Metroplex / Interface, is on the 1988 Virgin Detroit Techno album, has released on KMS and its subsidiaries, edited the early Carl Craig tunes Psyche "Elements" and BFC "Galaxy" for Transmat and Fragile respectively, won The Electrifyin' Mojo's mix contest "The Mixodrome" while still in high school, and taught Claude Young to DJ before they formed a label called Frictional that Shake still helms. At our March 17, 2018 party "Midwest Freaks" where we celebrated some of the Midwest's finest iconoclasts, Shake delivered a blistering ode to all the edges and possibilities of Detroit Techno. Grant was a name that often cropped up among the most talented producers of the now robust and sprawling lofi scene, that did not quite fit the mold. The music was certainly inspired by classic Chicago and Detroit movements of the 90s and early 00s, but the sounds themselves were bold, dense, and textured. Through crestfallen harmonies and cascading rhythms, the mysterious Grant hangs warehouse weapons from crystal chandeliers. Over the past four years, Grant’s compositions have dripped with elegance as they wrap clubs and headphones alike in sumptuous basslines, spectral gospel chants, and graceful hooks---and he shows no signs of stopping. 

As Grant pumps the gas on his output heading into 2019, the veil over his identity flies away revealing Anthony Collins, half of the revered Frank & Tony and co-founder of the Scissor and Thread label. Bolting Bits is proud to present a new mix from this visionary talent, accompanied by a brief Q&A to peel back a bit more on this enigmatic artist.
